pool story books

Grissim, "Billiards"

I forgot to add this one. This is one of my favorite books too. It is older, so there are many stories about players who are not around anymore(Nagy, Lisciotti, Willis, etc).

Thank you Mr.Jewett

Rags to Rifleman has sold on eBay in the last five years for the following prices: a little dogeared, $79 Mar03; $66 Mar03; $51 Aug03; $54 Oct03;
$86 Nov03; $43 Apr04; $54 May04; $325!!! Aug05; $62 Aug05; $76 Dec06; $100 Mar07; no bid at $149 Dec07; worn cover, $68 Jan08;
If you can wait, keep checking eBay. If you have to have one now, I have one I'd let go for less than $275, but I'd prefer to trade for it.

From a previous post... My favorites include McGoorty, Lindrum, Gospool, Grissim, Stowers, Stein and Rubino, and Shamos for various reasons.

If you're tired of instruction, but crave something pool related,
you might want to check out the following. The biographical
and/or historical stuff is not entirely fiction, but I think much
of it qualifies. -- Bob

Byrne, "Great Pool Stories"

Dyer, "Hustler Days" and "The Hustler and the Champ"
Byrne, "McGoorty"

McCumber, "Playing Off the Rail"

Grissim, "Billiards"
Fels, "Legends of Pool"
Freddy the Beard's "The Gospool."
Ricketts, "Walter Lindrum - Billiards Phenomenon"
Hoppe, "Thirty Years of Billiards"

McGoorty and it's not even close in my opinion.

I am excited and a little surprised that this is available in a Kindle edition and for less than half the price of the paperback. I get my Kindle this week and will be downloading it!

I wish Amazon would drop the price on those Kindles. I have several stories on there and there not selling that great. It must be the high price of the Kindle, it can't be my stories:rolleyes: Johnnyt

Actually, Oprah featured it last Friday on her show and it has already caused a huge jump in sales. Along with a short time offer of $50 off by using the code: OPRAHWINFREY at check out. From what I understand, they did drop the price from 399.00 to 359.00 a few months ago. So now with the code you can get it for 309.00 but only through Thursday.

I had been wanting one, so this put me over the edge and I am also getting one for my Mom. :smile:

I think amazon has snapped in the 9 with this product. Now that the President picker, Oprah, has endorsed it, it will go viral.

If anyone doubts this, go to Amazon, search Kindle and read the reviews from people who have purchased other electronic books. These folks go ga ga over it. The video there really explains the advantages, too.

I told my wife about it a few weeks ago and her first words, "That would make a great Christmas gift." Me and my big mouth!

I agree Jeff, this is the iPod for the literary world. I resisted it for a while, cause I like books. And despite my joking with "thedude", I am pretty frugal and also buy a lot of my books used. For me it is about the convenience and being able to get current titles, I normally might wait over a year for, to come out in PB, when I want them and cheaper than the PB price would be.

Also, I thought it would be great to read in dark pool halls, till I discovered the screen is not back lite like a computer so you still need good lighting to read it. Still the size will make it easy to bring along to tournaments and I always manage to find some light somewhere.

I think it was CSPAN that had the President of Amazon on a month or so ago that led me to their website and Kindle (am I spelling it right?). His comment that floored me was that Amazon could not use the existing digital versions of books but instead was re-scanning and re-digitizing every book they can as fast as they can so the quality would be up to the printed page, as book lovers demand.

Note...my wife missed the Oprah episode last week so I'm hoping she'll forget about our conversation...But, she's in a book club so I'm pretty sure that hope will be dashed. :o

It is an "e" reading device, like an iPod but for books, click on the word Kindle, highlighted in the post you quoted above, for more info.
