Pool suggestions you should avoid.

back to advice to avoid

My thanks to all that came forward to agree that cutting before banking was not an absolute statement although generally a very true one.

To lighten the mood a bit and get the thread back on track, I'd like to strangle whomever it was that showed me the trick of snapping the wrist side to side at the moment of impact to dig the tip into the cue ball to achieve greater english. Executed properly, you can juice the devil out of the cue ball. However, and yes that is a big bold however, there are far easier ways to achieve the same goal far more consistently with far better control and I wasted many an hour as a teen learning this technique. Some ghosts of it still want to sneak back into my game after a long lay off.

Thanks for nothing to the good hearted and well intentioned redneck that showed me that back in the late sixties! :D :) :D

IMO, it's complete baloney. There is often a big difference between a 'good player' and a good instructor. Just because someone is a 'strong' player doesn't mean they know how to communicate or teach.

Yes, this is right in many scenerios. When I worked construction, management always promoted the best (hardest worker and most knowledgeable) to a foremans position ---- my father in law included. Management never sent them to training on how to communicate with a crew and how do get best out of the crew- didn't seem to realize that a good hand didn't always mean a good boss. A lot of the time the foreman was miserable and the crew was miserable.

In pool, a good player if he/she can communicate or teach should be a good instructor ---- it hinges on the communication and teaching skill of the player.

Seems like everyone is getting snow except nw MT (we have snow pack on Mountains from earlier - less than normal). One of my kids called Sunday (from Phoenix) and 15 minutes later I got a call from a friend in nw Phoenix - they both called to tell me it was 'SNOWING IN PHOENIX' of course it was the once every 10-15 years for 5 minutes "WOW, KIDS SEE THAT IS WHAT SNOW IS".  And we were warmer!!!!
