Pool table brush

Below is a traditional pool table horse hair brush. On top is one I found at Harbor Freight. The top one is very soft and brushes the dirt and chalk dust away without grinding it down in. This is my favorite when brushing but I also vacuum often but don't use too strong of a vacuum.

Any insights into the vacuum or attachment(s) - I've always been afraid of too much suction affecting the cloth.
No concern there. I use my Rigid Shop Vac with the horse hair attachment pictured below. I've been doing this after every session for years and the Simonis is as tight as the day it was installed. I hardly get any blueing on my bridge hand, if at all.

Most important.... good suction.
Then use, a flat 6-8-10-12'' Combination.... head/brush setup kinda like thread #12. Mine is smaller.
As the size of the head brush increases, suction goes down.
For home the 8'' is perfect, and maybe a backup 6.

A buddy vacs his D'mond table about once a week and uses the Simonis X tool after each session. Table is very clean. The X-1 works great IF you use it right. Light pressure and speed is how it works. If you push down on it it doesn't generate the static elec. that makes it work.

As for which vacuum... The mechanic at a carom tournament I helped with went to buy a vacuum for the event. He got a seriously powerful commercial grade machine. The cloth was on very tight.

If the table cloth is installed/pulled taunt correctly your Vacuum is your tell.
Sounds like the above vac Bob mentioned.... would be able to lift the cloth up off the slate slightly ''in the middle''.
Poorly installed cloth can lift by the rails/pockets too.

for me ive found a 1 hp shop vac works great then a damp rag. small and easy to move around with one hand. and the other vacuums
or just either one is better than any brush.
