Pool table maintenance

I am new to pool and have kinda of a lame question. I got a semi nice pool table and have been cleaning it up and what not. My question is does anyone know how to remove wax buildup from the wood parts of the table. I don't want to damage to wood and unsure what to use on it. After its clean I bought some really good paste wax to put a nice shine and protect the wood.

Pure gum turpentine used on a clean rag will get rid of the old wax without damaging the wood finish., Just be sure not get even a drop on the cloth. Then rub on a good clear paste wax and buff to a shine. Mitch

Is distilled turpentine different than gum turpentine?

Absolutely! One you drink, the other you chew.

;)

Otter, other than sifting through the wannabe comedians  you came to the right place. There's a wealth of helpful, knowledgable people here. Welcome to the forum!

Turp has a real bad strong odor. If you use it ventilate the room if possible. It will stink up your house.

The house already smells, with 5 guys living in it.......ya its probably not much worse than the turpentine.

Welcome to the forum, Otter. I can't believe nobody has said this yet so I'll be the first. Purple?? Really? Forget the wood and change the cloth! :D

I was wondering how long it would take for a comment on that!

He is a new member, I was just trying to be polite. Now that the cat is out of the bag, blue or tournament green would look good. Rule #1-DO NOT SKIMP ON CLOTH!!! Get a good quality cloth, not the cheap stuff, you get what you pay for.

100%. Simonis 860 or go home! FWIW, I don't have a 'conventional' cloth color.....but purple!! EEK! I do like my non-standard cloth color though, and I caught hell for too...so have to just have to pass the buck!! Welcome to the site Otter.

It's a Simonis cloth, sorry I love purple it's my favorite color. I would prefer it a deeper purple, but it will work just fine. All the guy's I live with love it too.

So no one else likes purple.

Not on my pool tables playing surface. While I may enjoy sporting my purple leisure suit with the matching hat and leopard print silk shirt, I may even partake in a few games wearing my favorite attire , I do not want to shoot pool on purple.

It's just that it's harder to see the balls on a darker background and you can get a real case of eye fatigue after a couple of hours. It also takes more overhead light to make it bright enough to be playable.

But you can play on it; you've got young eyes.

If you like you existing cloth color, you can keep it.
