Poolhall Junkies

It's no cinematic masterpiece, but undoubtedly a fun watch. Although I admit I watched The Color of Money immediately after, and enjoyed that one a lot more.

Me, too. Especially the end when she lets him feel her up. Sophomoric, but a good chuckle anyway. Lol

A good fun movie that happens to about pool. What more could you ask of it?
Nobody was going for an Oscar here, I don't know why this movie gets constantly panned by folks. Mars should make a sequel, maybe set it in the Philippines. That would be a real cool story.
 
i actually just got done listening to this movie on youtube at work. I was at my desk for a few hours so i played it on youtube and just downsized the window and listened on my headphones and watched "in my mind" while I was writing in my lab notebook. Great times.
 
I have read different opinions on PHJ over the years on AZ.

I have always thought it was a decent movie. Its not like we have that many to choose from or compare them to.

Now, if someone wants to watch a serious bad B Grade movie, Kisses and Caroms.

Its out there for free if you want to kill an hour or so of your time that you will never get back.

Mildly amusing if your other option in life is to clean the toe jam from your feet when you're bored.

I don't mind the movie overall as much as the depiction of what a good player is. They show that if you are good you make lots of bank and jump shots which is the opposite of a good player. And that black cuetec the use... well we don't need to say anything on here about why that is bad.

No movie about pool will depict what a good player actually is. The only way to do that is to show lots of actual pool being played by good players. Unfortunately, the general public doesn't find that very interesting and it would make for a pretty boring movie.

I love this movie... It's one of my favorites. Walken is to movies as bacon is to meals. Just add him and it can do nothing but make it better.
 
poolhall junkies is a great movie. i own it on a couple of formats. if you want to watch a crappy pool themed movie then watch stickmen. now that's a big pile of dung

I agree, Walken has to be in my ideal movie about pool.
Walken and Pacino look the best over a cue of all the actors, IMO.

But I see the perfect pool movie having a 'voice-over' like Apocalypse Now.
You could have a player making a long run at straight pool, and the voice-
over gives the insight of the mind of a champion.
 
Name another movie where Christopher Walken is THE GOOD GUY and Ricky Schroder is the BAD guy!!! hahaha

And the end... when Joe is trying to get under Walken's skin... oh man, the BEST.

I agree, that ending is one of the better parts in the movie if not the best part.
 
its a good movie

I think it is a great movie. maybe getting ready for a big tourny I would play "The Hustler, Color of Money then Pool Hall Junkies. That would get me in the mood lol
