I'll be in Hawaii visiting family this summer. Can anyone recommend any pool halls on the Kona-side of the big island?

I actually did see a pool room on the Kona side when I was there at the end of '06. Unfortunately, I can't tell you where it was. I saw it a few times as I passed by it driving somewhere. I thought about going in, but just never bothered doing so. There was a sign out front that said they had a weekly 9-ball tournament, if I remember correctly.

Are you a diver, by any chance? I did a night dive there with the manta rays that was awesome (you can see a short clip I took at http://members.cox.net/jadame/mantas.avi).

Dude, Hawaii isn't anything special to me. I spent every summer there as a kid working on family farms. Trust me, it's not exotic when you live there. I'll be there for two weeks and I will be in need of a pool table.

I do live in Hawaii and it is special. Been here for quite a while and its still exotic to me and my family. So, Dude, leave your attitude at home and try enjoying once in a while.

Not sure just where Hawaiian Brian's place is or even if it's still open. A friend of mine went there several years ago. Maybe someone else will know, Jay, for instance.

They are still open -- I was there last summer. Here's what I wrote:

So thanks to all your recommendations of Hawaiian Brian's, I naturally decided to check it out... and man, was I in for a sad surprise!

I don't know how to put this gently, but compared to what I'm used to (back in Scandinavia and here in Northern California) the Brian's place sucks, big time. The entire place is dirty, including floors, tables and balls -- several times I had to go to the bathroom to wash my hand(s) as my bridge hand got sticky & blue by the dirty table-cloth. The balls were trowing big time since they had probably never been washed, the rails were broke/inconstant, and the table that had the tightest pockets (table #39) had yet wider pockets than the widest of our Shoreline Billiards here in Bay Area... and worst of all, THEY DID NOT SERVE ANY BEER!

Well, if any of you Hawaiians are coming to Northern California, check out Shoreline Billiards (especially table #4) and you'll be in for a nice surprise.
