Poolhalls in Portland, OR area

Hello!
I'm going to the US for a little while and taking my cues with me. Could you suggest pool places around Portland? I'm going to stay in some suburb, but I could drive wherever you say I should. :) Also, if there are amateur tournaments going, it'd be really nice to learn about them... Thanks!

Check out Cues billiards on 162nd and stark. Also Classic billiards on 122nd and powell. And don't forget Sam's hollywood billiards in the hollywood district. All joints are within 20 minutes of each other so it's convienent. The people you meet there should be able to steer you to some other places. Hope that helps.

By the way. If your looking for action the following names should be mentioned
Glenn atwell - 9 Ball
Francisco (Franny) - 1-hole

Cues billiards in Salem. It's about 40 miles away from portland. But if action is what you're after classic and cues in Salem are the two spots. Also when you get in town find a billiard paper called "On the Wire". It will list all the weekly and regional tourniments. Fri-Sat-Sun a bar called Midway in Oregon City has great tourny's, many A players play and tons of good b players too.

Thanks a lot! That really helps.. Classic billiards is not even mention on the Internet.

Yeah Classics is about the best one around. About 10 9' Gold Crowns a 10' snooker, some 8 footers and then a bunch of 7 footers. Glenn Atwell has been the main stick in the area and one of the best in the northwest for a while now. Won several national titles in the various leagues. But Classics has some very good players, and one pocket players. It's a little of a trek for me to head down there during the week since I work on the complete opposite side of Portland from the pool hall. Send me an IM if you want to get together and shoot some. I rerely gamble , but if you are looking for action I know most of the players..or how to get a hold of them.

Yeah Cue's is a nice place too. Love the old Brunswick Centennails and Anniversary tables. Hey cbi...are those tourneys they have there every month or so only for SO. Willamette Valley Players only like the paper says? I know a guy from BCA regionals that lives in Keizer and plays out of there named Luke. He said I should come down and play in them but haven't made the trip yet.

I know that he has been in the Portland area for about a year or so but not sure if he is still there. What Bar was the tourney in? Bill rode with us to a bar tourney about two years ago maybe we played in the same event. I can't seem to remember the name of the bar right off hand though.

The tourney in Seattle that I always played in was at Goldies on 45th. 8ball on Sunday on 9ball on Tuesday. Started late so if I happened to lose out of the 9ball at Dr. Cues I would run down there. Was so late most everyone left by the time the finals came around. Won the 9ball 8 straight weeks and the 8ball 7 straight weeks and noone complained. Was a good tourney 100% add and usually 20+ players per night. 1st always around $90. I only saw Bill in there once. Most of the time I was going against Tyler Luce who got 2nd in the BCA Open in Vegas a few years back.

Thanks for the response. The bar I am thinking about is in Mountlake Terrace it is a sports bar, but I still can't remember the name. They held the first Chad Aldridge Memorial Tournament there.

Another good tourney at least a few years ago was at Legends in West seattle on monday nights. Usually at least $100 for 1st and the only guy you had to look out 4 was big roger. Always great action afterwards too. Last time I saw Bill cress he was in portland and hanging out with John morbito and living with franny while at the same time trying to take him off in 1-hole. Tough action trying to bust your roommate nightly who has alot thicker br then you do. As in 3 barrels vs. 30. LOL

I heard Al Romero is hanging out there too.

Yeah I think Morbito plays at Classics as well. I have never seen him shoot. He walked in while I was playing 9ball with another player next to the gambling table. He watched for a bit, talked to Atwell and then left. He places high in the local tourneys though I have read.

Bill Cress

Bill Cress is in the Portland area - has a job if anyone can believe that. For how long - who knows. Off or On drugs - depends on who you talk to - but you can find him at Classics usually after 4pm daily when he gets off work.

Check with On The Wire when you get into town for the best places to play and the best tournaments -they are right there in Portland and will know what is close to where you're at and know where everything is located, as well as how to get ahold of anyone if you are looking to gamble, etc. 503-674-8300.

I had heard Bill had a job. In a hotel right? I had also heard that he had put on some weight and was looking healthy and hitting the balls pretty sporty. I am going to have to head down that way and say hello.

On the Wire's Website is www.onthewirebilliards.com.
