Pop goes the Moorie

I have been using super glue gel on my Moorie tips and I am having bad results. Is there a secret to getting these tips to stick. I have heard of breathing on them. I think the glue is the problem. Any advise would be great.

Search "searing method". ;)
Basically whats happening is the Moori's soak up the glue and don't bond well. I prime both the tip back & ferrule face with CA and allow it to dry...then install as normal. You'll never have one pop off again. That or change to Gorilla glue. :)

Do you sand the back of the tip when the ca is dry, and do you use gel or reg super glue.

Scuff the back lightly to be sure the glue surface is flat...and use the gel.

I found the same problem a few years ago. You need moisture to set off the super glue and breathing hard on the backs usually is sufficient. I believe Moori tips are drier than most other tips and just breathing on them is not sufficient. I have found that when I licked the back of the Moori's my trouble stopped. In the 70's I used thin super glue for tips as that was the only super glue available. It would hold the tips reasonably well but I found that the thin glue would seep up into the tip making it exceptionally hard once the tip was worn down a little. I have refrained from using Denni's technique because of the fear of this recurring. It may no longer be the case now that the tips are layered instead of one piece but since I have found that licking the backs sufficed I have not tried that technique.

I sand the back of the tip and Ferriule with 80 grit paper,Then apply a large drop of loctite 380 to the tip, a small amount on ferrule. Then assemble. Sometimes if in a hurry I will use generic hobby shop super glue activator. As the 380 is black , I wrap the ferulle tightly with threadtape before slicing off the old tip. Then when all is done there is no black glue on the white ferrule. I have never had a glue to tip failure yet. I also use aluminum and titanium ferrules. I have had delaminated tips , but is another problem.

Many people do their tip in their lathe, including the application of the tip. However, for many years I have used the following item, continue to use Super Glue Gell, sand the back of the tip, clean up and ruff the top of the ferrule insuring the ferrule top is flat, and clamp the tip with the following device.

I keep 3 or 4 of these clamps around they are great for many things not only tips. The clamp will allow you to apply good even pressure, and since using one these I have never had a tip pop off. You can buy one for around $10 at any hardware store.

i dont breathe heavy or lick anything. i sand and glue.

with pressure and a patience you should have no problem

never lost one yet.

temp will mess with your glue. if its too cold it will no cure properly

I thought I saw a post on here that said that Locktite Professional glue that they sell at Lowes was a good glue for tips, has anyone tried this glue. It seems to be very thin compared to the gel.

Loctite all plastics. Put the activator on both sides and let dry before putting glue on. Don't get it on your fingers.

I use the Loctite Pro Super Glue and it works very well. The only thing you have to watch out for is if the glue gets onto a dirty ferrule its almost impossible to clean off. I clean the ferrule before I put the tip on and be sure to wipe the excess glue off quickly and you should be fine. I've also found that it does not hold up well with Phenolic tips and White Diamond. I install those with the Super Glue Gel.

To each his own. Try a bunch of different methods and see what works best for you.

Does anyone else find this visual funny? Imagine someone trying out pool for the first time, they walk into a pool hall, and the guy behind the counter is mid lick :D .

Be sure your glue is not old. CA doesn't last forever and can provide a substandard adherence after a relatively short time.

this is what ive used for 10 years. no prime just sand and glue. i also poke holes with my porcupine never lost a tip. must squeeze out first little bit and just toss when it gets close to end.

i always clean my ferrules first also. gluing on top on chalk creates a headache
