Scam update:

If anyone is interested, I just got an email from "safe harbor ebay services" (url with a parent directory of geocities/yahoo account) that wants me to mail payment to the following address:

Heinrich Weingart
18-39 69th street
Woodside
NY 11377
US

His AOL account is Mortu85@aol.com

Wonder how I can burn this guy.... :D This is felony attempted fraud..

if I were you I would send him a piece of shi### in the mail! but I'm not so would have to pay him a visit since I live in the next boro over and take it from there, but thats me :D :D

I told my wife about this over dinner last night, she suggested that I send him an envelope, on the outside write "Payment for Southwest cue" and inside have a simple piece of paper that says, "F*&% You".

See, the funny thing is that he has a legitimate AOL account that can be traced. I wished I knew how to do that, though... I'd like to report him to the NY police, but no telling where that address is, what the place is, etc.

Get one less POS in jail for felony fraud.

Hi, I think I have some time!I have to make a trip tomorrow and I'll see if I get the chance to stop bye and take some pictures of his house tomorrow and email them to you , and I think maybe they should be either emailed to him or sent by mail to him and tell him how small the world is (really "really small" )that I think will touch him ;) ;)

It's just south of Buffalo... I'm sure this isn't his house (although it could be, his grammar shows him to be pretty stupid), but if so, LET ME KNOW!!! :D

Man, am i in the wrong part of the country right now...

This sounds like fun.

Justabrake, you should have a friend in dark clothes and ski mask lurking around his house when you take the pictures too. If it is his house.

I believe this Woodside is a section of Queens and not the one by Buffalo.

Bogus name and address. You'll need to make something happen based on the email address.

S,

That would be too cool.

By the way, if he really has that Southwest, I'll take it.

By the way... be careful.

I bet it's one of those check cashing places with the post office boxes next to "NoTell MoTell".

hey-Chris, since I met you , I remember you saying (it's in the mail) ebay joke ;)

for that price $$$$$$$$$$ i'll grab it myself !

I bought several item from Ebay through the "second chance" offers. Usually, the bidders that were higher than you either don't pay, can't pay, or the sellers friends tried to "bid up" the auction and got stuck.

I've never been burned from this in the past as I check and double check their ebay feedbacks and veryify email accounts. If they communicate from a "good email" address (NOT yahoo, hotmail, etc) I have no problems dealing with them. Just make sure the email addresses are from ISPs and not the hotmail variety. ;)

I have done my homework also and bidded on a cpu where this guy had a perfect feedback of like 80 or 90 and I guess he just had troubles and needed cash and went bad so what i'm trying to say is people change for good or for worst , it could happen to anyone maybe you have luck on your side but it does happen

While it's far from perfect, the E-Bay internal mail system, especially since they bought paypal, will eventually evolve into a potent security tool. The real danger lies in bypassing the typical E-Bay security precautions. These fraudulent sellers lure people with greed. The phrase "buyer beware" is even more real in today's "virtual" world.

I've seen a lot of obvious scams on eBay,,when I'm suspicious, I email them and tell them I have relatives there (wherever the item is 'supposed' to be) and to give me the address or phone number so they can contact them or see the item,, most of them disappear from eBay before I can return to look at that item again......jack

no such address

Wow,

First of all, on behalf of all of us, three cheers for Justabrake for making the trip there. He is a stand-up guy.

18-39 69th street didn't exist? How about 18 69th street box 39 or apt 39?

Assuming it's a false address, I wonder how they were going to pull off this scam? Most of the time these people are in Romania or places like that. It kind of surprised me there was a domestic USA adress in the fist place. Usually their communications reveal their foreign style of english.

OK - this being what it is, I guess they were just after identity information. Now that Ross has changed his passwords, etc., their plot is foiled.

Curious. I think that was a close call for Ross.

Actually, if its a scam, take the information you currently have to the United States Post Office, Office of the Postal Inspector General. They handle all cases of postal fraud/fraud and related activity in connection with computers. Jail time ranges from 18 months to 5 years, depending on how much money is involved in the case.
