post processor

Has any body have a post processor that works with BobCad 24 and a xylotex controller? Not having any luck.

I'm not sure that it would make any difference.

The post needs to be compatible with the control software you're using, but I don't think the hardware much matters.

Are you using Mach3?

What kind of issues are you having?

I don't use the xylotex any longer as I've upgraded to Gecko drives, but I know I did without any issues.

in bobcad, choose "Mach 3 mill no atc"

This would be a good choice for Mach 3. You will need to foot Bobcad support and download the post. It should automatically save to the correct location for Bobcad. You will have to setup your machine in Bobcad to use that post by default if I remember correctly. Get the correct post installed first and then if you you need further help let us know.

The post Jake is referring to is already included on the default install of Bobcad. No need to download or install anything.

Sorry about that. I use my own creation that was a modification from that post. It may now be a default install it did not use to be.

Hey Jake,

What does the ATC stand for?

Rick

ATC="Automatic Tool Change". In the post that means that the M06 does not call a T code for a Tool as it needs to be changed manually. There is also a general setting in Mach 3 to either ignore M06 or to Feed hold for manual tool change.

Thank for the input guys but not sure I understand. with ver. 21 I use the fanuc 6m and it works fine but in ver. 24 if I use the same it gets the job done but it thinks its a Haas and after if I don't stop it , the Z will run into the stop.

in the camtree you should see a spot where it says HAAS vf2.millpst
right click the icon next to it on the left and select edit.
you should get a dialog box that will allow you to go to a list of stock posts.
select the new one and it should save it to default from here on

I'm still confused as to what the post processor has to do with the
xyotex control.

The Xylotex is nothing more than a 4 axis controller board with a parallel port input. In order to make it spin the motors, all you need are step and direction signals on the appropriate parallel port pins. The post processor doesn't do any of this, but Mach3 does.

The post processor determines how the G code is created so it will match the machines design and capabilities, like tool changes, A axis, etc.

I realize that the wrong post will output code that the machine cannot perform, but it's not controlled by the xylotex.

Thanks for all the info guys but just got back from working a tournament so I'm just reading some of the post. Royce as for as what xyootex has to do with any thing I'm
not sure but when you go on BobCad's website to down load a post processor it wont let me pick one unless I tell it what kind of machine or controller. Thanks for all the suggestions and info I'll try them and hopefully one works .It sounds like a plan.
Thanks again.

You're right that bobcad wants to know the machine or controller, but in the case of our little PC based machines, the controller is mach3. Xylotex is the drive.

I'm not trying to be picky, but I think it's important to know the difference. On commercial machines the control and the drive are almost always a single package. But with our type of machines there can be many possibilities, and most all use the same post processor.
