Bill,

-An accurate description listing any flaws, etc
-Weight of each piece of the cue, butt, each shaft
-Shaft info--weight, length, ferrule/tip diameter, ferrule material, tip type
-Balance point of the cue assembled
-Joint/pin type
-Woods and inlay materials
-Wrap type/condition
-Butt cap material
-How the cue is ID'd, ie, signature, butt cap logo, etc
-Pix--at least good pix of joint, forearm, wrap/handle, butt sleeve, logo/signature, entire cue
-Price, price, price

You got it!

Pictures, PRICE, specs, condition, shipping costs, payment methods.

That will satisfy 99%++ of buyers and lurkers!

Thanks for asking.

There are many of us who believe price should be a requirement for listing, as it is on the vast majority of other forums.

There's been plenty of these threads. Usually it gets civil but then we have the price argument. People probably hate me cause I feel the need to write the same thing every time I see a thread like this.

It should be mandatory to have as detailed specs as you can provide, as well as PICTURES. I like pretty pictures. I'm like a 2nd grader. I like pictures. If you are unable to post pictures, or are not familiar with how to do so, just ask. Plenty of us here are willing to help you.

Prices are strongly urged. We all know many cues that pass hands here are of extremely high value. Some people want their privacy. I can understand that. If the seller feels that the cue is rare or pricey enough to warrant a "PM for price", then maybe it's for the better. Don't put a "PM for pics and specs". Those have no need for that secrecy.

Also, don't do the "PM with offers" and then decide to leave out a price that you would like to get for a cue. I see some pretty cues out there and then I see the damn words, "PM me with an offer". I don't know all the big names. I can't afford all the big names. I have to hold back every time to not PM with a $300 offer on a $1000+ cue from a well known maker; so as not to be an ass. On the flip side I see a pretty cue from a maker I am not familiar with and am afraid to give an offer because I do not want to sound like an idiot; even though I genuinely am unaware of the going price for that cuemaker's work. All those "PM me with an offer" types should be changed to --> "I want $XXX OBO." Let people know what YOU WANT for the cue and that you are willing to take offers CLOSE to what you desire.

Have I missed anything? These things should be stickied and anyone failing to post pictures and specs should have their post CLOSED. Waste of bandwidth from posts all saying "Pics? Specs? Price?"

Very good points, Bench. 99% of the cues should have a price listed, with the exception being those high-end collector cues. You know what you have in the cue, set an acceptable profit (or loss, recently) to what you paid and go on with it.

Many people are SO afraid that they will sell something and another person will make a dollar or two that they think they could have made. Big deal!! I like for folks who buy from me to make a dollar or two on the cue, that way they come back to me next time.

If you want to auction your cue off, go to Ebay.

My 2 pennies, pics, pics, and specs. Especially weight and ferrule size. We all have different cue weights and shaft sizes we prefer, if these were always listed we wouldn't have to bother the seller asking for them. Better too much info than not enough.

Good luck.

Some additional information that I always want to know but rarely see:

1. The diameter of the cue at the joint. This tells me whether any of the shafts I already own will fit this cue well.

2. The diameter of the cue at the bottom of the butt cap.

3. Whether the cue has a weight bolt.
a. If it does have a weight bolt:
- what the cue weighs without the bolt (or, alternatively, the weight of the bolt);
- the diameter and threads per inch of the weight bolt; and
- the depth of the tapped weight-bolt hole.

b. If it does not have a weight bolt:
- Whether it has a drilled and tapped weight-bolt hole, and, if so, the diameter of the hole, the threads per inch, and the depth of that hole.
With this information about any weight bolt and/or weight-bolt hole, I can determine the minimum and maximum possible weights of the cue (without altering the hole) and any possibilities for moving the balance point.

having heard all of this, I still post less info and request a personal call because thats the way I like to do business.I usually have people post on my thread some of this same stuff,I never change thinking they could simply not call and we would both be better off.
There really is no hard and fast rule or protocal,I am making an effort to master photo so I can make pretty pictures, but I have sold tons of cues without them,
I suggest you do what makes you happy
