Power outage at the Rio

I was in the Rio when the power went out and also got to look outside and it was pretty nasty.

The problem with a place like Vegas/Henderson is that the infrastructure isn't set up for heavy rains. The drainage system isn't so catered towards evacuating big quantities of water. I have a place in Anthem and most of the community streets don't have sewer systems. The water drainage is just a slight cement gully at teh curb. For the most part, this is how it is all over the area.

here's where the problem comes in- the "sewage system" can be overcome very easily by a 1" sudden rainfall. Also, because the ground is so hard and baked, it cannot absorb the water. Therefore, the water sits ON TOP of the dirt/land. It's also the cause of flash floods.

In addition, most roofs are not in the best shape, as far as watersealing. Why? Cuz it rarely ever rains like this. In fact, most ppl's car wipers are virtually useless ever time it does rain. Why? Dryrot.

Just some perspective for those that aren't familiar with different areas. It's kinda like us in the Northeast sneering at Floridians when they complain that the temperature is in the 30's and they might freeze to death due to the incredible coldness.

I wanted to say this but didn't want to type it out on my phone. Ill just quote it. Nice post Eric.

Eric

Very well put.
People should see what the Charleston underpass used to look like when it rained before they fixed it.
