Power Tool

The thread mill cutter comes from MSC Industrial supply PN-81262248
or www.mscdirect.com

I started out curious, now I am confused. I looked up that PN and found it had a 3/8 diameter profile. For male threads, it makes sense, but what is used for milling female threads? It seems that it should be a single point cutter, or the four points offset. If they were offset, that would limit the tool to only one pitch.

Tracy, you mean this one?
You can grind male and female threads with it.

I was wondering about that when I read It. I thought the same bit did both, but since I am one of the guys wanting to set this up, thought I must just have been mistaken and did not want to speak up. Guess I was'nt. Has anyone done this on the 7x12 mentioned for ferrules? seems like those little boogers are hard to center a shaft in them that well, even with an extended steady. I have some heavy extruded 80/20 I could make an extension from, that might would help the centering issue, but don't know if It's worth It to me just for ferrule jobs, because I use that little sucker for everything else under the sun, but cue work these days. Including building stuff for the cue work. Guess It's time to break down and get a floor model sometime this year. Wondering what the best priced floor lathe with the largest spindle bore is? Grizzly, Emco, harbor fr? and can you get a decent floor lathe in 120v? Most with any size i have seen are 220 or higher. I guess there is a tork/rpm issue to consider. My tapering will not be an issue, as already have that capibility, as well as I am building a dedicated machine for that, just need it for threading mostly, and want to be able to thread forearms to my handles, for buttcaps, and ferrule threading as well. Joey,
Yep ,that's the one. How small of a hole can you mill female threads with it. What I meant before was, what is used to cut 5/16 or 3/8 female threads. Or does everyone just use taps in holes that are so small?
