predator 314 shaft inquiry

I recently got a Predator 314 shaft for repair with the ferrule broken completely off the shaft. To my surprise the shaft has a hole in it that measures about 3/8 inches in diameter and about 4 inches deep. The sidewall of the remaining shaft looks too thin to put on another ferrule. (if I had one this size) I thought that Predator 314 shafts were constructed with several pie shaped segments, that formed a solid wood shaft. Anyone else bump into this problem? I have a photo of the shaft, but I do not know how to insert it into this message. Sorry

Nope, that is the way they are built...the secret to low deflection is the hollow section at the tip end of the shaft. If you want it repaired correctly, you need to find a cuesmith who has Predator ferrules, otherwise, a cue smith canput in a tenon and a standard ferrule, but it will no longer be a Predator low deflection shaft.

That is correct. The front end of Predator shafts are hollow, the shaft has been designed this way.

Predator ferrules are much thinner and lighter than traditional ferrules. If you send your shaft to and authorized Predator repair center, they will be able to fix it.

You're right.

I've seen the new predator shaft and the old predator shafts and the insides and the quality differance was unreal.I watched a cueman change the ferrule of both. With the older generation preds the ferrule material was much softer and much more difficult to remove. The inside was neat with the foam, and had much thicker sidewalls to the ferrule so even at 12mm the old preds still played great. The problem I seen with the new ones was the sidewalls are way to thin. After heating it for about 10 seconds the titan ferrule slid right off!It was hollow but even the foam looked more like hamster shavings and not much of it.Don't get me wrong i think they play okay but not even close to the old ones.Even if somebody can fix that one,I would send it back for a brand new one,it will be alot better for you mentally knowing you have a new one,not a fixed one!Take Care

Wow 314

Wow 314 shafts.
I had sent one back and they would not do anything to help me do the shaft was 1 mm under the warnnty so they would not send me a new shaft nor will thay fix it ..So i feel they don't stand behind there word or product.

Thanks for all the input, guys. This morning I had another player with the same type problem. His cue rolled true (straight) on a table. Except for the ferrule and tip. I suspect his shaft is damaged also. In my opinion the shafts cannot be repaired because the top of the shaft is beyond repair. If you put on a new ferrule the cue will end being shorter. The lesson to be learned here is..don't ever break the balls using a Predator cue. I also feel a little mislead by their advertising. I'm almost sure that their older ads had a profile view of their shaft, showing the pie shaped segments. I have never noticed an ad showing a hollow shaft. Hmmm.

this also happened to another forum member...i think thats utter BS, not to mention he had to send it in for broken ferrules 3x's

I changed my ferrule on a 314-2 that was cracked with the yellow micarta Masonh material and it hits so much better than the factory stuff.--Leonard
