predator break cues, and break tip question

I had tried out a predator break cue the other day and was not impressed, plus the tip seemed to be of some synthetic material.

Thant if you did not hit the cue ball 110% correctly the tip spun off causing a mis cue.

Seems almost impossible to add some spin/english when breaking with a predator break Cue.

Anyone know what tips predator break cue come with?

not trying to be a smart a$$ but why would you want to add english to a break shot. The goal is to transfer as much energy as possible to the head ball, so the cue ball dies after contact.

I think the tips are call phenolic, I have one on my break and I never even chalk it.

A Predator BK comes with a standard (non-phenolic) tip... not sure whose... but definitely a standard leather tip.

A Predator BK2 comes with a phenolic tip and with a back-up pad. After playing with it for a month or so, I replaced my BK2 tip with a Talisman BK tip... and found whitey much easier to control as a result. ;)

I agree that most of the time you want to hit the head ball.

I use a BK2 and replaced the phenolic tip with a hard moori tip. I play APA league 8-ball and you are allowed to hit the ball behind the head ball. Coming in from the side this gives you lots more ball action. I use low outside english when I do this break and the phenolic was just not working.

On the other hand, my shaft split in 3 places just below the ferrule. Has this happened to anyone else? I heard that predator was having a problem with a batch of BK2 shafts. Any knowledge of that would also be helpful.

Thanks in Advance. Flettir

IIRC, the problem was 314-2 ferrules.... not BK2 shafts.

Do a search.

I also play APA and when I play 8 ball I also hit the second ball. But I use my shooting cue because this is a more percison break. I was talking about the break in 9 ball.

Let me get this straight the phenolic tips do not need chalk? I am old school and just use house cues...for now..
