Predator ferrule broke

This is the weirdest brake of s ferrule I've ever seen. I don't even hit it hard when it happened. I was using a little outside English so it would hit the rail and get down table and I heard a weird sound come from my tip. I finished running out. Checked my tip when I walked over to get my break cue and it popped off! I've never seen a ferrule break like this.

I've seen one just like it. The owner just glued it back together:rolleyes:. Let me guess: Predator Z2?.

My guess would be that there was some air between the top of the tenon and the ferrule, causing the ferrule to bear the entire load of the strike. But then, I'm not an engineer, so it's merely an uneducated guess.

nope.. 314/2 .. I just started playing with it actually. It was my best friends extra shaft and I wanted to play with a soft kamui clear. He played with for probably about 4 years I think until he got his revo shaft
 
Happens all the time. Replace the ferrule and just put it on the expense account of owning that brand.
 
Same thing happened to mine, except the crack went all the way around but didn't pop off. Just send it in to pred for a warranty repair. It actually goes to Seyberts and they did a good job replacing it.

Main thing for me, and I'm sure its all in my head, is that I thought it played different from before. Bit the bullet and just got a 3rd gen after.

I was thinking there should be a carbon pad on top of the ferrule ??????
Normally those ferrules break without a carbon pad and allot of times it voids the warranty.

Yea I just posted it because I thought it was an odd break. Not because I was angry. That's why I carry a 2nd shaft. lol I put on the other shaft and continued the beat down I was giving out haha
 
^ Way to go trob :smile:

Predators have always had some ferrule issues, they are inevitable as their construction method has been taken to extremes with that thin wall and lightweight material. I replaced mine with Tomahawk material and it worked like dream again and has held up just fine :smile:
