Predator ferrule cracking question

Right, my ferrule has started to crack - it started at the shaft some months ago and is now nearly 2/3 the way to the tip. The crack is very thin and does not affect play in any way. I'm really loathed to get this repaired at the moment, as it's the first time in my life I've been 100% happy with cue, balance, tip etc, and don't want to mess with it if I can get away with it.

My question is, is it essential to get this replaced? My friend has a Pred SP which has a much larger crack in it, and I can't find a difference in play - it hits fine. It's been like this for years, apparently.

If it's cosmetic, I'll stick with it. If every crack to is going to affect play, I'll change it.

Advice please!
 
Get a bottle of Thin CA (cyanoacrylate) glue. You know, the kind of glue
us guys use to install tips. You know that already right?

Thin CA will penetrate cracks of that nature and I have used it as such.
I swipe it over the ferrule on occasion to polish it.

Now, the kicker. CA will melt some types of plastic so it will be best to ask KJ first before you give it a try. I'm thinking that you should be ok with the
material that Predator uses for ferrule material.

If its ok, then your ferrule will most likely be good for quite some time.

Hmm, very nervous about doing that, not least as I'm sure it'll invalidate the warranty.

You polish the ferrule with glue??? Why is everything about this game so frigging complicated!

If you're worried about the warranty, take it to an authorized Predator dealer and ask them what's best for it. If an authorized distributor does the work, it's still warrantied overall.

You don't have to polish the ferrule with glue. You don't even have to polish the ferrule. That guy does, and it works for him. Everybody's got their own deal on how to maintain their equipment. G'luck!

don't worry about the warranty.. they will claim misuse and you won't get squat.. if you keep using it.. it will finally snap off at some point..

I was lucky enough to find someone who wanted mine so at least I didn't take a total loss on it..

I'd suggest getting used to real shafts again.. I did and have never looked back.

How the hell do you play with a cracked ferrule and why would you not gt it fixed. I gotta be missin something here.:confused:
 
A couple of years ago (?), Predator shaft ferrules were cracking at an alarming rate.

Have it fixed under warranty by an authorized Predator repairman/shop.

it's been over a year since I last used a Predator.. I am significantly better than I was then.. and to tell the truth I never even suffered a set back.

but some folks like to strut around talking about how custom cues with production shafts

are somehow better than production cues

it's all hype and hogwash and you know it as well as I do..

now go back to selling your cues to the suckers who believe the BS.

Um ok.:confused: I have never played with a Predator shaft. Of course I have hit balls with them, but could never get used to them. I am happy with my plain old shaft...just like you. I just do not choose to talk about other people's decisions like they are stupid, like you seem to do. I have sold some, because that is what many people like.

Why don't you walk into a big tourney in your home state, and yell out that everyone who uses a Predator shaft is a sucker, and you play better then them?:wink:

I'll beat a lot more of them than you can possibly imagine.. and of the games I lose equipment will have NOTHING to do with the outcome..

I am in a unique position.. I'm not here to put anyone's money in my pocket . so I have the luxury of honesty.. Telling the truth doesn't cost me any money

I have ZERO problem with cue BUYERS.. it's the sellers that need to be taken down a notch..

I'm not worried regarding the warranty.

As far as high deflection shafts go...what IS the point of them? Why make the game more difficult than it needs to be?

It's a tiny hairline crack, which is spreading towards the tip. No effect on how it plays at all...for now. I'm trying to ascertain whether it'll be a problem long term - as i said, my friend has a dirty great crack from tip to shaft, and that doesn't affect play either.
