Predator/Schon Question

The very first break of the night last night, the ferrule on my Schon shattered. The rest of the night, I played with a Predator P2 (the black one). I really love how it felt. The question is, will a Predator shaft on my Schon butt feel close to the same?

Nope. It will feel better;)
 
It will mostly feel the same as with the P2. Especially with Predator (314s, Zs), the shaft is the main factor in the hit of the cue.
 
you broke the balls with your schon!?

predator shaft will be different.. i dont know about hitting better...

unique in its own way...

Don't forget about the "Predator" involved with all the schons and butts and shafts Scott.

The only ferrule I've ever seen totally shatter like glass was an ivory ferrule that James Christopher said had been in the car for 2 hours,about 20 degrees outside. He was just hitting balls when it happened,not breaking. If this was just their stock linen-based ferrule,I've got to hand it to you,you've managed to do something I've never heard of before. In fact,I've never seen one of those even cracked. Tommy D.

the hit might be similar or if there'd be any difference it would be negligible but one thing you should be concerned about is the balance. Predator shafts are usually lighter than solid shafts thus when paired to another cue's butt (non predator) they sometimes tend to become butt heavy. Best move for you right now is go to a store and try a predator shaft on your schon butt and see how it balances and feels, hitting a few balls will be better. If you see a shaft that balances well, get it!

A buddy of mine used to shoot with an old schon fitted with a class "B" 314 shaft , that shaft hit and balanced so well on the schon. One day, this guy comes up to him and asks him if he wanted to trade his class B shaft plus a little cash for a class "A" 314 shaft, my friend went on with the trade and then after a few hours of play, he realized that he's cue had become butt heavy. He wanted to get the class " B" shaft back but the guy has sold it to someone else. My buddy has since sold the schon butt ( he couldnt find another 314 shaft that balanced well with his schon butt) and now plays with a full predator cue. Btw, this buddy of mine plays just a shade shy of 3rd tier by Philippine Pros Standard. Hope this story helps :)
 
I agree with Cross--I have a P2 and a Schon with both have 314 and Z shafts. The balance is changed on the Schon butt with either Predator shaft which may not be an issue for you but I prefer a forward balanced cue thought the hit is solid and positive with the Schon-Predator combination.
 
To answer your question, "will they feel the same", I say NO.....The P-2 is a 10 piece butt with a different joint and balance...I have had both. I loved the P-2 and how it played and felt. I also loved the Schon with the 314 shaft....But is the feel the same??? NO....

Thanks for all the replies. I don't have a shop anywhere close to me to go and get a 314 shaft to try on the schon. That is what I was asking.

I used to use my Fury j/b to break with, but I have one hell of a time controlling the cue ball with that phenolic tip. I started using my Schon, and the feel is about 100 times better. In breaking the ferrule, I just broke and it didn't shatter, but my tip is laying on the table next to about 3 shards of ferrule while most of the ferrule is on the cue. It never sits out in the cold so that wasn't it. Just a freak accident I guess.

I'm sure that i'll get the shaft checked out/fixed but the way that the P2 felt, was very nice and balanced in my mind. I'll have to find one here sometime to use.
