Predator shaft+Kamui Black

Hi
I recently bought a new Predator QR2 cue and it is absolutely great along with the 314 shaft. Though I am kind of confused on what tip to use though.

I currently use a Kamui Black Medium tip which isn't bad, but I think it hits too...hard. (or stiff, i really can't describe it) The 314 shaft is indeed very "flexy" and not that stiff and I have no idea what a softer Kamui tip would do to it. I think that using the medium tip on the 314 shaft kinda holds it back. You think it is a good idea to switch to a Super Soft tip to see what it's like with the 314? Have any of you tried both of them to give me some review? Do you think that the softer tip would make the whole cue hit much less stiff?

Also, does cutting down the top layers of the tip (thus shortening it) once installed have any significant impact on your game?

Cheers

Did you play with the Everest tip it came with, or is the KB the only tip you've played with? Changing the tip makes a HUGE difference to how it plays - I HATED the Everest as it gives a very soft, mush hit on the 314 - horrible. A harder tip works better for me on this shaft.

kamui black soft will not disappoint ,I have one on my z2 and just won a 9ball Championship with it.. Best tip for ld shafts imo.

You can expect to get probablt 10 different opinions here.
I also like the Kamui black. I recently switched to the Kamui tan - Medium. I could not be happier. This is just what worked for me.
Good luck with your search.

I have a 314-2 shaft with a Kamui black soft tip and it seems to be a fine combination.

Kamui black and predator shaft

Funny you should ask this question I just tried a black medium on my predator shaft. It sucks. It hits like you have a steel tip and does not play well at all. I cut it off and put a soft on it but haven't tried it yet. The medium feels harder than my phenolic tip on the break cue. I have played with this shaft off and on for a long time with a lepro and it had more action and feel than I could handle sometimes. The tip sure makes a big difference. If the kamui soft doesn't work out i think I will try an everest. If that doesn't work I will go back to a lepro and leave it alone. Its not in your head it hits way too hard and the action is greatly reduced.

Hehe, I think that you are exaggerating a bit but the kamui black medium is indeed too hard. Feel free to post here once you have tried the soft one.

anyone here tried the super soft?

Yess SS is very nice :) Should be called MS in my opinion, S hits like a medium , M hits like a hard one.

If you have a black medium on it now, I would *not* suggest going all the way down to a super-soft. Just try a regular ol' black-soft first. i think you'll enjoy it.

Maybe it's just me but I don't seem to think my 314 is flexy or whippy at all. I had kamui black soft and changed to tan medium and love it and will not switch back to the black.

As mentioned, you could get numerous suggestions, the end result is what works for you.

Cutting a tip in half might satisfy you, but how do you reproduce that 'feeling'?
Will it last? How about after a few dozen racks?

Keep trying tips until you find what works for you.
Stick with one manufacturer and some of their product line.

I've tried two kamui, med and soft on a Predator shaft (older shaft), but haven't found the combination to work for me.
They're too pricey for me!
But others seem to like them.

I play with a 314 w/Kamui Black Soft and like the combo. It is true that the Kamui tips are a little harder. The soft does play like a bit of a medium in other tips such as Moori. I have a friend that loves the Black SS and he always sands the new tip down about half way after installing and says it plays the best for him.

I have a 314 pre cat and recently put on a Kamui brown medium soft.
Seems to work very well on the 314.
I'm happy with the combination so far.

If your medium black hits too hard, then you should drop down one notch and see what you think.

I always cut 2 layers off of a Kamui or any other skyscaper tip. Doesn't make a difference, at least to me. Some people like the tall tip, I don't so I bring them down a bit.
