Predator Z2 Tip Problem

A friend of mine handed me his Lucasi 611 with a Predator Z2 shaft on it and asks me if I can straighten shafts. I told him that yes, sometimes depending on how they got warped. So I put his cue together to see how bad the warp is and it very small and only at the tip end of the shaft. With the shaft apart, you can't see it - only with the butt and shaft together. So then I get to looking at the tip and the attached picture is what I saw. He's ground the shaft down below the ferrule when chalking, so now he has an hourglass in the end of his shaft. The grinding is not uniform, so with the butt attached, it does indeed look to be warped. I didn't point that out to him, simply asked him when he needed his cue back (next Friday) and told him I'd see what I could do.
Obviously, I'm not authorized to work on Z2's, though I kind of doubt that this will be a warranty repair, but that's not for me to determine.
What is his best recourse?
I sent the same info off to KJ, but my ISP/Mail carrier seems to be having some problem, so I'm posting here.
Thanks!
Gary

That kind of looks to me like someone went after it with a slack belt sander or something similar. Mainly because the ferrule also looks tapered when headed to the tip.

He must be one heck of a chalker :) If it were me I'd either even it out the best I could with some 600 and just leave it hourglass shaped, or send it to Predator and see what they can do.

Let us know what you come up with!

I've known some heavy chalkers, but have never seen a ferrule wear like that as a result. It looks a lot more like some one got too aggressive with the sand paper after tipping it.

It looks like it got chucked up really hard to me.

Given the fact that the ferrule is now barrel shaped, I'm going to recommend that it be replaced.
Now that I've seen the pic you were trying to send to me we can discuss this via PM or here in your thread.
I can fill the valley below the ferrule and I would do that before replacing said ferrule.
Without getting into details, suffice it to say it will be shiny and you'll still see the wood.
LMK how you'd like to proceed.

To the poster that wants to perpetuate the thoroughly debunked urban myth of foam filled Predator shafts,
I have only one thing to say; STOP IT!!!
You obviously don't know so why put out misinformation about something you've heard or imagined.
It reflects poorly on the credibility of your posts.

I see this kind of wear frequently. Predator isn't going to warranty it because it would fall under "abuse" so-to-speak. The shaft itself cannot be turned below 11.4mm, iirc.

KJ,
I'll PM you and we can work this out.

That will be a fun repair.
I would like to hear how you would do it kJ....

Darcy,
But then he'd have to kill you! And I have little doubt that KJ has a long reach, even up into the hinterlands where you are.
:D

Tee hee
I got a shaft from pred one time that had nick repairs filled with"something"
Not sure what it was but it wasn't noticeable by hand.
I would be interested in the magic formula :)

I agree with you in that it will be interesting to see the shaft when it comes back - hoping my friend/customer will send it off to him.
I guess no holiday for you, but have a great day in any case

If it would be filled and you can still see the wood it would sound like it would be some sort of built up finish or CA and polished afterwards
