Predator Z2 versus OB-2 ?

Morning all,

Was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on the Predator Z2 shaft as compared to the OB-2 shaft?

I'm currently playing with a Predator P3 with the 314-2, but thinking of trying one of the 'skinnies'.

Anyone have any hands on comparison with both? Not only playability, but how is the quality of the OB as compared to the Predator products?

I'm switching my 314-2 for an OB Classic. Actually 2 OB Classics. I like the way they hit better. I don't like the Z2, OBII, or Classic Pro taper but I would imagine the feedback would be the same.
 
in terms of quality, both are pretty good, i've never had any problems with either.

the ob-2 hits softer than the z2. for a harder hit, ob has the classic pro. it has a little more deflection than the ob-2, probably more comparable to the 314-2 or ob-1. still pretty low, not a big adjustment. or you could just put a harder tip on the ob-2, which firmed up the hit for me just fine. they make totally different sounds though, the ob-2 has the wood ferrule and the foam core, while the z2 has the hollow space. hard to describe it in words, but very different.

the tapers are pretty different. the z2 is a very thin taper. the ob-2 taper i like better...it's a small tip shaft that doesn't feel as small as they use a sort of hybrid conical/pro taper. but that's just my personal preference.

Keep in mind the different taper. I'm old school & played with a Brunswick made into a 2-pc. I am use to & probably prefer the conical/European taper. I recently p/u an i2 & OB Classic. I think I like the i2 better but they have different tips so I'm not sure. I tried an i3 11.75 w/conical taper. I think I prefer the conical taper but don't know which one. just keep the different taper in mind & I also think that the tapers hit & feel different. I know I did not answer anything but I did not want you to get surprised.
 
They are both close. the differenc eis the feel. cant really go too wrong either way.
Most of the pros use Predator
 
You might want to add ob classic pro to your list, I just did the same eval and ordered the ob classic pro recently. I should have it by next week.

I've got a buddy that is going to let me try his OB-2 tonight, we'll see how it goes. From what I hear the taper takes some getting used to..
 
I owned both for a fair stretch (a year+) and I like the OB2 a little more. IMO they are very similar, there's no clear big difference. I liked the hit of the OB2 a little more but it's subjective. The small tip/pro taper is the nuts, if you're an open bridge player at least.

I smacked the predator once on a rail and later it came apart at the seams, but maybe it's not fair to expect a cue to take that sort of abuse. My buddy's however warped heavily shortly after he got it. So all other things being equal, that's why I gravitate towards the OB.

Hi Creedo,

Can you tell me, are the tapers similar or the same between the two? I tried and OB-2 last night, and the taper seemed quite a bit different than the Z2 that I tried a few weeks ago. Might have been in my mind, a friend told me that they are the exact same taper.
