Predator's new $79 chalk...

So I've been wondering, is masters chalk bad these days? All I've ever used is masters since that is what is available at the halls. I never bothered getting chalk to carry around.
No it’s fine. I only chalk once a rack so I prefer something like kamui or v10

Is it me or has the entry cost for 'top' equipment quintupled in the last fifteen or so years? Man, I used to carry a $500 cue and feel like the highest maintenance guy in the room...

“There’s a sucker born every minute” — P.T. Barnum

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Master is all any capable player requires.
A house cue is all a capable player requires but I bet like everyone else you have a fancy cue and break cue Plus a fancy case to carry it in.
As I said before. That piece of chalk lasts me a year and a half. That’s a couple bucks a month. Who cares about a couple bucks a month lol the money we waste on unnecessary things in this world and this is a problem. 😂 you haven’t even used it and you hate it. if you like master cool. Use It and leave everyone else alone to make their choices with their huge $20 to $30 investment they are making on chalk that bothers you so

Correct me if I’m wrong, but they’re not selling individual pieces yet right?
I've seen some smaller third party resellers selling them for $30 a pop individually (ebay etc). On the main Predator website, Seyberts and pooldawg only packs of 3.

Master is still great chalk, very consistent in quality.
One thing I like about Master Chalk is the variety of colors. Of course the red is terrible, and anyone with red cloth deserves red chalk. But even the blue and green leave residue on my ancient wooden shaft. Instead I use the Master Gray chalk, which not only does not leave visible residue on the shaft but is easy to clean off my Simonis Blue cloth.
I have some Magic chalk I bought on a special intro deal, but I never liked the thickness of the layer it left on the tip, nor did I like wondering if the tip still had chalk on the shots after the initial chalking with Magic. For me, one careful chalking before every shot is a good habit, though the guys who grind away six times grabbing more than one piece of chalk are somehow missing the point, or maybe just developed that habit and never thought about it being overkill.

I recently saw a top pro jump the cue ball on ann easy shot when he was just trying to draw back a little - a sure sign he scooped the tip underneath whitey. Was that forgetting to chalk or lack of stroke focus? Or did his special Last-All-Week-Chalk let him down a day early??

So you get to the money ball and the last time you chalked was maybe seven or eight balls ago? Amazing confidence in the chalk's lasting ability, especially if there is anything of value on the line. Of course, what do I know, I've never used kamui or v10.

When cocaine first showed up it was expensive too. The cartels took care of that!

80 bucks for some chalk is like cocaine. It ain’t good for ya!

And half the chalk will be lost by being left on the rail.
Yup. Something we agree on. Chalk is supposed to work well for it's intended purpose, but be cheap enough it is not gonna ruin your day to forget it at the pool hall, or drop it down a pocket in your table. Plus, if you are stroking well and playing the game "correctly", one can run out with an unchalked phenolic tip, so there's that.

I considered this when I changed over. since I only chalk once a game I leave it at my case or breaking cue. So fsr I’ve never lost a piece But yes.… if I carried It to the table I would absolutely leave it behind at some point lol

I would like to hear Efren's thoughts on 30 dollar chalk. He won a tournament playing with a 15 dollar cue.
What's the old saying? A fool and his money soon part ways.
