Preditor shafts...New VS Old..Difference/better

this may have been asked before so please bear with me.

A friend asked me if i knew what the difference is between the old preditor and new preditor shafts? And he also asked me which 1 is better. And does anybody know what the going price would be???? So any help you may be able to give me will be greatly appreciated. BTW...he is the 1 looking for a 3/8-10 shaft. Only now he wants it to be 30"......thanks in advance for your replies........................mike

It might be because no one knows what a Preditor is,try Predator,lol,j/k Mike.:D:p I like the old ones that i have hit with,i just picked up a sneaky pete with the green veneers,probably about 5 years old,discontinued model,hits very nicely,better then some of the newer ones i have hit with.I had a few other people agree also that there was something different and good about it the hit.:)

I've found that 314's do "soften" up over time and the feel of a new one is noticeably better than a seasoned one.

For your reference, the advertisements show(ed) a black filler material in the hollow end of the shaft. I've inspected the hollow section of many 314's and not one of them had anything so fancy in there. Some had a foam insert, some had a thin film of resin, and some just had glue in there. The depth & diameter of the hollow section always looked the same. No matter how they varied, they all hit the same to me.

For those that said they sanded their 314 down (as far as 12mm)...I can't imagine it could survive a single shot that way. The sidewall of the hollow section had to be paper thin.

They explain the difference in detail on the Predator website - http://www.predatorcues.com/predator_cues_shaft_retired.html The main differences are the new harder ferrule material, allowing a shorter ferrule, and a phenolic core at the joint end.

As far as how they play, there is very little difference between the old version and the newer version IMO, and I can't say that one is necesarily better than the other.

As far as price goes, the 314-2 will run between $190 and $250 depending on the collar (plus $15 for 30"), the Z-2 will run about $210-$270 (plus $15 for 30"), and the old versions of either one should be about $160, but might be hard to find in a 30" length with 3/8-10.
 
I had an older one and a newer one, and I preferred the older one. It was firmer. I could feel more of the hit.
