Well i'm considering upgrading my cue to a leather wrap and was interested in what everyone's opinion on the matter was. From what i've played with in the past i'll probably be going w/ a smooth leather wrap but want to know from those of you who have played with different textures, stacked, no wrap, etc. I know when i'm breaking i prefer no wrap but on my playing cue (currently have linen) would prefer the feel of leather. Any input as of what has the best feel, comfort, grip, etc and for what situation (break/play/jump..)

I hate wraps. For some reason I'm always paranoid of the linen unraveling. And I've just never liked the way the leather feels. It's slippery. But you know, I'm a fan of simplicity. The closer my cue is to house stick the better. I guess that's why mine looks exactly like one except for a ring on my shaft. Apparently the i-shafts don't come without the collar. Oh well, at least the noobs in the room don't grab my cue anymore when I need to hit the bathroom.

I also am a fan of simplicity, which is why i'd like a leather wrap. For whatever reason it seems simpler, more natural and traditional to me, more so than a linen wrap. I love the feel of a wrapless cue but after playing for a while and when my hands start to sweat, etc it's less than ideal.

I think that with a wood handle I get more feel in my fingers when I shoot. And, as regards cosmetics, I love the wood. Beautiful.

I can't stand the feel of a wrapless cue
I gotta have super suuuuuuuper slick linen

I like linen and have no probs when it's not that slick.

I don't hate it naked anyway... never tried smooth leather.

I feel like I grip my cue to tight with a slick linen wrap, and I just plain don't care for the feel of leather. If I have to have a wrap it has to be stack leather or cork, but I prefer wrapless.

NO WRAP!!!!!!!!!!! I usta want a wrap, but now i hate them!

I love the look of a wrapless cue, expecially if it has some nice looking wood in the handle. Plus if my hands get sweaty, then it doesnt mess with the wrap, and my hand doesnt slide all over the places when stroking the cue.

Plus, i never have to worry about the wrap getting torn up or comming un-done.

I voted 'Other' -- since my all time favorite cue is a custom Longoni with sewed in leather strips as its "wrap". To me, just perfect, (I distaste linen wrap ;^)

I also have the sweaty hand problem. It's not so extreme where I'm constantly wiping down my cue but it's bad enough to distract me while shooting. My cue is currently with RAT to get a stack wrap installed on it :D

wrap styles

I grew up with a linen or cortland wrap as did most players. I in recent years moved to a wrapless or leather wrapped cue. The richudy chudy elephant ear wrap is the nicest wrap I have ever seen or felt. The stacked leather has it uses as well and is nice.

shoot well and shoot often

My personal player is wrapped in 'pebble' textured black leather...it's real soft yet not spongy in my hands...

Wrapless! I grew up playing with house cues and that's the feel I prefer. Besides, it makes for a cleaner looking cue with less maintenance.:)

Smooth leather...

I have a smooth leather wrap that was installed by Paul Fanelli on my Scrugg's custom. It feels just right, and the seam is almost undetectable.
When my new Ernie Martinez gets here, it goes straight to his shop to have a new smooth leather wrap put on it.

Linen is far to hard to hold on to, the cue gets away from me. A cue without wrap is alright, until the finish wears off, and then it's hard to hold on to, as well. Leather wrap is not slipperly, it is almost sticky; you can keep the cue under control easily. I will never go back...

If you hold your cue on the butt-sleeve just so you can hold on to the finish rather than the smooth wrap, and hate to choke up into the wrap because it's so smooth; then leather is for you! ...that was my deal, and now, problem solved.

I like the wrapless cue. I believe it gives me more friction. Also, it adds to the beauty of the cue to not cover up the wood. ;)
