I was reading some threads about stress/jitters before playing in a tournament and I actually applied all your tips that you guys provided because I had a tournament yesterday. We were 45 players and I finished 4th which is really nice cuz I usually don't perform well in tourneys.

Thank you everyone for your tips.

What kinds of things worked for you?

Breathing worked. Focusing on my preshot routine like having the correct stance, arms positions and head level. When I was sitting I would keep my eyes on the CB ALL THE TIME and count from 100 to 0..like someone said in another thread.:D

Something else that I found helpful was imagining exactly what I wanted the OB and CB to do while I was doing some warmup strokes.

Ali wasnt the most humble guy around and he won a couple fights. ;)

all jokeing aside, do what ever works best for you, for me it was getting older that did the trick, perhaps the pressures of business that seasoned me, when I was 20 I thought I handled pressure in pool just fine, looking back I didnt as well as I thougt I did. Moving ahead 20 years and a long lay-off from pool when I came back I havent felt any kind of pressure-yet. My mind is quite, calm and i'm totally relaxed no matter who i'm playing under any circumstances. Additionally difficult shots or critical shots(like the 9ball in 9 ball) all feel the same to me now. When I miss, I miss.

What i'm sturggling with is lapses in concentration, I havent been able to play as often as I would like to because of back problems and I think that playing more would help the attention span.

What will help your attention span evan more, is implementing an eye pattern into your routine. If you're interested in learning this, I'll come to Vegas and teach you.

That was my post that I started. Glad it, and everyone's responses, helped you place. Awesome man. I hope to test these at the next tourney which will be....hmmmm...when I get some free time from college. Schools just startin tomorrow and I have to concentrate on getting a good start this semester. Anyhow I should be playin in a tourney in the next couple of weeks and let you all know how it does/doesn't help me in the jitters.
