I have heard of these clubs over the years in different areas of the country and wondering if any AZ members belong to one or have anymore information on them. The most recent one I heard of was from a local that takes roads trips a few times a year it was in the midwest somewhere(forgot where he said). It was a members only club that had three tables and was setup like a mini poolroom.
The way they have been explain to me is a group of people get together for whatever reason(no poolhall near them,poolhall to crowded,not open the hours they want, etc) and find a place to put a few tables that the members can go to whenever they like and play as long as they like and have no table time no hassle. This sounds like a great idea to me since most of the rooms near me are within weeks of closing.
My thinking was have a place with the basics- bathroom, some type of kitchen area and enough space for say two tables with some seating area and a tv. The members would pay a fee up front to join and then monthly dues to pay rent and utils. and the like.
What are your thoughts on this and does it sound like something that if it was in your area you would be interested in.

I think it is a great idea. The problem is finding enough players willing to support such a venture. I hope to buy about five acres, build a house and a Pool Building such as you are suggesting. I can tell you one thing, most of the people who have come to my basemant and played didn't bring a dam thing but their cue. They drink my Blanton's single barrel bourbon at $75 a bottle and my Remy RSOP at $135. They love to eat seafood, chilli, whatever you have and never bring anything. Oh, one guy brought a couple of cokes. Go figure man. If I could find several people who were willing to share their goodies, we would already have a club. JMHO

Oh, first time you are a guest. After that, you should contribute.
 
IMO you need a BYO bar for set-ups. About four tables, a shuffle board or two, and low rent. Juke-box, small kitchen and at least one wide screen TV. Have an annual fee of at least $300 to keep the riff-raff out, and charge monthly dues. Also charge a small hourly fee for time on the tables to stop the same group from hogging them. Hold once a month dances, BBQ's, or just partys...wifes like that and will let the husbands out more. Johnnyt

That sounds like some of the local senior centers we have around here (FLA), except they don't pay anything.

I haven't checked one out yet but at 66 maybe I can make a comeback at one. Johnnyt

Well, the one i belong to here in Michigan fits that profile pretty good. although we now have 4 billiard tables.

It was started about 44 years ago by a group of dutch carom players that got tired of waiting for harold worst to get off the billiard table at the local room.

we have nightly leagues of both caroms and billiards but also have plenty of open time for our fanatical members to get their fill. (i used to be one of them about 12-14 years ago) now i just play 3-c on sundays (in about 2hrs)

The biggest obstacles I see are finding the enough members, a location, and money. I figure I need atleast 10 people to get this started each contributing $300-$500 upfront and $50 to $100 a month. Then we would need to increase the membership to 20 or 30 within the first year. I'm thinking if we can find a rent for around $750 to $1000 a month. We need to have enough open space for atleast 2 9' and maybe 1 bar box. I would like to also to have enough room for a card table or 2 and a few sofas and some spectator chairs.
