I had a great time last night at the Charity event......I had the distinct pleasure of meeting and shooting with my teammate Jack Madden(sp?) a guy named Chris (sorry Chris forgot your last name and to ask you if you were an AZ'r) and our Pro..."Denny the Bear" Coulter who is Viking cue's touring pro......

I have to say the whole thing was a blast.....well worth the entry fee.
I played against Corey "the rack master" Duell who was a gracious nice guy who really took time out for his fans....especially the kids....He has a real talent and he's a fun guy to match up with on the table...
The next pro was Ike Reynolds....who to be honest I'd never heard of.....That man can shoot some pool.....He made the thinnest cuts imaginable and left perfect shape for his teammate Every time...Why I've never seen him on a televised match is beyond me...He had the best ball control.......I wish I had more table time with him

The final Pro we faced was another unknown to me anyway.....a Japanese guy named Tanaka...again I probably butchered the name spelling.....He was also a very good shooter

Some final comments......I was really pretty pleased with my play....although I was on the receiving end of many safeties and only managed to pocket a couple balls for the most part I felt I didn't hurt the team effort...but I was by far the weakest player .... The only real bad play by me was an easy 9 ball shot with a tables worth if green (blue felt actually) which I choked....We didn't make the finals by more than one game so I didn't feel too bad about it......not bad really for a first time out....

Chris (unknown last name) played a good game the tables were new and fast....which caused him to hook me a couple times....but he pocketed balls and won games for us.....and Chris if you are a member don't feel bad about leaving me tough......I really need to be put in those situations to help the mental side of my game and my kicks and banks which are my weak points...

Jack Madden.....Cuemaker.......Jack if I misspelled your last name ... sorry.... Jack is a true gentleman and it was a pleasure to meet him and have him as a teammate...Jack was using one of his own "low end" cues...It was truely a beautiful understated cue Brazillian cocbola with a marvelous grain and a super finish I think it had a stainless steel joint......had a sticker on it #12....maybe Jack will chime in with the cue specs....I have to say that Jack's play was rock solid ...... he was really consistent and I have to say the best advertisement for his own product ...yeah he shot that good with it..... He also struck me as a true artisan and showed a genuine interest in the cues that others were playing with....He really has great taste in what a work of art a well made cue is....... If I were in the market for a cue..... I'd give Jack's stuff a look see......I will be visiting his boot just for eye candy this year......sorry Jack... it'll be a year or 2 before I'm ready to buy another

Denny Coulter was a great team captain and was free with advice tips and stories that made for an interesting evening.....The guy's no slouch with that snazzy Viking cue he was shooting with it's genuine ivory and turquoise inlays.....It sure caught Jack's attention...Denny will be at the Viking booth during the show and I plan to pay him a visit ..... I have a friend who's looking to upgrade from a cuetec that will be with me maybe we'll make Denny a sale because I'm sure a custom cue is out of his reach....

That sounds really cool. I’m unfamiliar with Pro/Am format was it 4 person teams? What was the rotation?

The Format For The Pro-AM

Pro-AM teams were made up of 1 pro and up to 4 amateurs. You could have signed up as a team, or individually like I did. Once the teams were formed and assigned to a table the clock was started and the object is to win as many games as possible in the 20 period....The games are reported by the honor system (we're talking a no payout charity tourney) the teams are shuffled between tables for the next round.....We played three rounds in a scotch doubles format.....That's when every one on the team takes only one shot. For example I go to the table and pocket a ball. One of my teamates plays my leave and shoots the next ball and so on until the table clears or someone misses. The two teams with the most wins play a best 2 of 3 match to determine the winner.

After it was over you had the opportunity to play a pro for $10 or pick your pro for $20 in a set of 3 games.....I didn't stay for this but the action in the room was hot and heavy when I left.......I'll be back today sometime though...

That's the same format they use for the WPBA Pro-Am charity events they usually have at the major WPBA tour stops. It's a fun time but no-one can shoot their best playing 5 way Scotch doubles. I prefer the one-on-one challenge the Pro format myself.

Love the handle - and thank you. I really enjoyed playing - most relaxing part of the whole week. The cue was "low end" only in price because there were no points or inlays --- it was a really beautiful piece of wood. It was a phenolic joint with a 3/8 10 bolt. And it was the first cue out the door - another AZ'r picked it up and will be in a tournament tomorrow night in the mid west. Will be at the expo next year and would love to play on your team in the Charity event. Again, had a real good time with you all.
