Many years ago at a time when it looked like I might be good enough to cash in some events around the country. I knew I'd need a little sponsor help. At the time I worked as a set up man in jewelry industry and made gold and silver jewelry at home for my mail order business. I had 1000 business cards made up and had a g/f type me up a bio with what I would do for the sponsor. I started around the 5 to 6 towns where I lived. At night I would mail to companies and businesses farther away.

In less than a month I had promises from 7 @ $50, $75, and $100. Right about then I got my draft notice, so that ended that and a few more things.

My loooong point is why can't pros today with computers, smart phones, email, FB, and other ways, do much the same thing today. Johnnyt

Quite a few pros DO self-promote, Johnnyt.
A lot of pros delve into Facebook, Twitter, and various blogs out there,
but you won't be privy to it all if YOU don't have your own similar accounts so as to see what's happening.

Perhaps you are like me: someone who doesn't do the social media
--other than watching YOUTUBE (yes, YouTube is considered 'social media')

If you do, then just simply start doing word searches on your favorite players.
I'm sure you will find a few familiar names.

Because most top pros are awful at self promoting.

Then again, trying to go out of your comfort zone is hard in general, because the overwhelming majority of people do not have the social skills to do so.

Pool popularity is on the declin so the professional pool players will have a much harder time getting sponsorship. Because of this, players are desperate to make a living by gambling or Hustlin to make up the difference.

Johnnyt, from reading your posts over the years, you are and always were a go-getter. You always had your hand in some sort of idea, that made you cash. I don't think it has anything to do with pool, it has to do with personality. You have that "get it" mentality.
