I would prefer for MANY reasons....no only for the sport & players, but the audience, the game, the vendors and those needing a bathroom break.

Best 4 outta five. 3 outta 5 , 2 outta three.
Pros Should format game play like tennis.
Races to ?????????????? ?
Breaks between sets.
Whom ever wins the lag, breaks/serves the first set.
Pros, get rid of the dbl elim.
You could travel and get it all done on Saturday in your local events.
Allot of people have Sundays for family time and church.
Plus, some tables will open up for Sat night play for your REGULAR$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Who pay the rent.

Agree. At the top level it should single-elim. I can see double at the local/regional level but not at the top.

Pool seems to be making the transition. In the very old days it was always some kind of round-robin for the championships. That changed to double elimination in the 1960s as it allowed a larger number of entrants. It was the standard for a long time with some variation in the final match which might be one or two matches. I heard that ABC dropped pool partly because they had so many "finals" that weren't really the final final and they had to throw away a lot of tape/film. I think the pool World Championships changed to a two phase format (groups/single) in the 1990s but I'm not sure when.

Carom and snooker are mostly single elimination at the top already. Sometimes there are pools/groups/round robins in the early stages, but they never, ever use double elimination.

And Bob sets are as good for Pro Game as for the spectators with that PROVEN USTA format, as the players can RESET between sets, like tennis. ALSO....Your business model should think of the crowd and all the other business attachments to the venue equal to the players.
This part of the venue is VERY important for the business model and long term increase in added prize money.
It should NEVER be controlled by the Casinos with the main their main concern $$$$$$$$$$$$ and attendance, not the game.

Watching Nadal at Roland Garros grind it out and getting pushed by his opponent is good stuff, even if it's a 4.5 hr 5 set match.
