Someone started another thread asking about the pro skill drills earlier in the week. i took a look at the site, and i was definitely impressed, so i placed an order right then and there. The book and 2 hour DVD for 39 bucks(plus shipping i think)

just a note........i am not affiliated in any way, shape, or form to the people at pro skill drills.

Well, so far so good, i ordered it on Monday i believe and i recieved it yesterday. so obviously they are shipping it out as soon as they can. if the pro skill drill guys are reading this.........THANKS ALOT.

i received this after i got home from practicing, so i havent had a chance to put this to use on the table yet. however i did watch about a half hour of the DVD.

its a great dvd, very clear, the narrating is exceptional as one person shoots the drills and somone does the narrating. they don't show entire drill(for time purposes i'm sure) for all the drills, but they do show EVERY drill and show the begginning and the end so that you will have a good idea how to complete the drill.

as for the book, the illustrations and directions are great. some don't look it from first glance, but i can tell that some of these drills are going to be SUPER HARD.

from looking at this book and comparing it to others such as the billiard workbook, i think this is FAR superior to anything else.

unlike the billiards workbook, this book actually tells you how you accomplish these drills instead of letting you wonder in the dark till you get it. the DVD further clarifies the drills.

i will say that these are not for the faint of heart poolplayers that don't like to put time in at the table. some of these drills will require lots of table time to master and get it down to the 70 percent mark that this book states will give you the advantage over about 70 percent of the poolplayers you will encounter.

this is a PREview and i will give a full REview after i have completed some of the drills.

i encourage everyone to take a look at there site www.proskilldrills.com i think thats the right link.

thanks

That's Tim Daniels in the video. Check out the Matrix-45, great drill.

My favorite (and most effective) drill in the book, in my opinion, the Bonus Drill Number 2. The one where you run three balls, then 4, then 5 and so on.

I got my book and DVD yesterday. There's enough in there to keep me busy for years. I'm anxious to try my luck at the matrix.
I also have the Danny Basavich "Kid Delicious" DVDs. They have some very good information that I didn't know.

I hadn't heard of this and in looking at the presentations on the website and the comments on here I just ordered the DVD and book! It looks like there are some really challenging drills there, and some that might even keep me interested long enough to complete them.

Something else that hasn't been said is that the Pro Skill Drills is *affordable*. The Billiards Workbook on the other hand, is so ridiculously and unconscionably priced, it should be downright boycotted. The billiards industry is full of overpriced instructional materials and brick-a-bracks targetting the poor souls who hope to purchase them, and magically start stringing racks for all their peers to see... It preys on the addicted D's and C's, and the obsessive-compulsive.

So, I'll look into the Pro Skills Drills simply because it isn't one of those widly overpriced magic potions... More power to the authors!

The Finisher is great drill that brought my game to a whole new level.

OK...I just popped for the $40 for the package. So far, I haven't been steered wrong by this kind of review on AZ, my game can use the help.

Can you describe the drill?

I won't describe in detail, because Tim is a buddy of mine, and I don't want to give away too much information, hope you understand. Anyways, the basic premise of the drill is to rack the 7,8, and 9. Break and take ball in hand, and spot any balls made, then try to run out. Then you do the 6, 7, 8, and 9. The 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9, and so on and so forth.

Lewdo,
excellent point about the cost. the Billiards Workbook, i agree, is way overpriced. WAY overpriced. i'd like to have it, but am not about to shell out that much money.

i'd say alot of the drills in both books are some of the basic drills that we have always known. but it would be nice to have them in a nice book or binder to refer to every now and then. and the Pro Skill Drills, for $25 plus shipping, seems to be the way to go.

i'll let ya's know what i think of it once i get mine. the guy said it would be shipped priority mail, and since i ordered it tuesday i might possibly have it today.

regards,
DCP

That's close to progressive nine ball, which I think was first proposed by Ron Shepard. See my column in On The Break News for how to apply it to both eight and nine ball: http://www.onthebreaknews.com/September04-08.htm

My column in the following month describes how you can make your own drills for your own weaknesses.

damn, i didn't realize that these would get this kind of response........................

where's my commission check???? LMAO

I’ve had an autographed copy for over a year now, still need to get the DVD though.

IMO, it’s a very good product for practice drills, although my idea of tip placement (for using english/spin) is slightly different than the book. I’ll ask a question – If you measure spin/english by tip placement what would be the maximum number of tips a player could use for side spin?

3 tips is about maximum......but you had better have a great stroke, and a well chalked tip.

1 tip will do fine for most any shots, and is sometimes too much.

in the book, i don't think they are actually saying that all those circles on the cue ball are full tips of sidespin, i think they are more like quarter tips in those pics.

good point though, i think i'll email and ask them if all those points are quarter tips or what.

This looks great. I was about to order The Pro Book and Pro Book dvd series. I may still get that later but for now I ordered the Pro Skills book and DVD. Any comments on the Pro Book series? $150 for the book and dvd's is kinda pricey but I like the idea of having the visual from the video. I will post a review of the Pro Skills once I get it.
