Hi all...How would putting a Pro taper on my Bender shafts affect the play? Would also like to have the shafts 12.75-12.80 MM...Currently just over 13mm.. Any ideas will be greatly apprecitated..I live in Portland Oregon...Can you recommend someone in the area that will do a good job if i decide to go this route?...Or maybe someone on here that is reputable...Thanks for all the knowledge that this site offers...Don:)

Would play great

I live in Oregon City. Turning the shafts down would not hurt. IMO i think think it would play better. The guy you want to do the work is Greg Sowder. I NEVER let anyone else touch my cues but him. For several reasons. First, he's the best around. Not only does he do repairs, he also makes cues. Many players around have them.

I have owned several cues ranging from a couple bucks to several thousand and would never let anyone else EVER, i mean EVER touch them.

PM me and i'll set you up with his number and directions.

Craig

Thanks...I know of Greg..He did a few of my tips for me...I will give him a call and see what he say...Thanks again...

Another option is to have the local cuemaker (hopefully has the right tap) to make a shaft. That way, you can keep the original shafts and have one to play/experiment with.

My local cuemaker charges $40 to $50 for retapering a shaft and $100 for a new shaft. I rather get a new shaft from him as I like how his shafts play.

Agree with jazz, Benders have investment value. Local cue maker would be able to make shafts to your preference if ya got the money.

Bender Shafts

I've had a few Benders and I have the Repair tool from Bender and on a couple of my Benders I have not changed the overall Taper but have taken the shafts down to about 12.70mm and they played great! I did re-seal the shafts and polish them out etc. and the played great.

Good Idea

I like the idea of making another shaft..Any recommendations in here as to whom i should contact about a couple of shafts? Thanks for all the info..Don

Dennis Searing built a shaft for my Bender and one for my Cognoscenti. That was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure if he is still building shafts for cues other than his own. You may want to contact him and inquire. He does fantastic work and is very deserving of his outstanding reputation.
