Problems with Pierce cues

I'm not wanting to take sides here, but that shaft is not warped. Even the "taper roll" (if that means center lift) is not that bad.

Roger

No problem Roger, thats why in the op I said "what do yo think?" If you were at table hight you would see how big the gap is. The phone is looking down at the stick and not level. If you want it just send the $650 and it will be on the way.lol Have a great one.

I think it is strange that a cuemaker replies on the forum in text message speak.
That does not build confidence...

The shaft he sent already has a taper roll.
Did you ever take into account the large humidity difference between American Falls, ID (21% humidity) and Munster, IN (70% humidity). Wood can move.

That's too much roll for me, considering it's supposed to be in new condition.

This isn't too surprising to see happen during shipping, however. It's 95 degrees where I live now, and the heat from the delivery truck is not your friend.

On top of that, the bowling alley shafts are not A grade shaft wood. They may be denser, but they are not straight grained and have tons of run out in the grain. This is going to make them less stable over temperature and humidity changes. The strength comes from the grain, and even strength comes from even grain... which those shafts don't really have.

I have one of those shafts, and it's not a bad player. It's thick for my tastes, but after a little taper tweak I dig it. (the shaft got bigger in dia the last inch before the ferrule, I just had that straightened out). It has no roll now, but I doubt it will stay perfectly straight forever.

It is what it is, and I know what that is, and that's all it really comes down to. Do you like it or not?

Thanks, but no thanks. I've seen many shafts that were a lot worse than that (as I'm sure we all have), but on a cue that costs $650 I do think you are right in expecting a shaft that rolls a little smoother than the one you got.

Pretty sad

That people can't handle issues in private. Consumers believe they have power by going public, when it makes them look like whining kids. There should be a list out their of customers like this so all the businesses can say no thank you. People who get everything from you, you give it your all to satisfy, are the ones who still tell everyone they got screwed.

I don't care who is right or wrong, but Mr. Pierce don't waste another breathe on him.

Like we use to say, you want a Good Buy, well Good-bye

Its actually about 100% since we had a tornado roll through the area last night. Funny thing is Jim was insulting me about not being at work today but didn't realize a tree fell in my back yard and I was waiting on tree people to cut it down. When it rains it pours, lol . Its a shame that I have to explain to him why Im not at work. Ive got a few cue here that made it just fine through the high humidity. Thanks for looking.

I tried to handle it in privet but got called a MOTHER ****#R and that was the end of talking to jim. Have a nice one you !@#$%^!!@#$%^.

I'm sure the OP tried to handle this privately, but having gone through the same thing with Pierce, that is not possible. I know that there are many people, including myself, that want to hear about stuff like this so that we don't make the same mistake and conduct business with someone like Pierce.

To the op, thanks for taking to time to illustrate what happened to you. Best of luck with future cue buys, there are many good cuemakers out there.

Jim has always been a straight up guy to me

I hate these threads and I don't usually comment on them. I just wanted to put in my 2 cents that Jim Pierce has always been straight up with me. I have had several of his cues and he even went out of his way to help me with a raw deal I got from another maker by refinishing a cue and putting a leather wrap on it for a great price (he didn't have to lower his price for me, but he did.). That is all I have to say on the subject, just wanted to make sure someone heard something positive about a great cue maker.

I won't comment on this thread again, thanks for reading.

I agree with you on these type of threads, till it happens to you. I had complete confidence in Jim after a few conversations with him but he didnt do what he said. He admitted it here on AZ and he went on to bother the hell out me with crazy text and phone calls. I just wanted it all to stop. I asked him to stop calling me and to stop texting me he said no, not untill i listen to his insults on the phone. I was done with him and his cue after I opened the tube. His actions are whats got it to this point. So to all the people who have had good dealings with Jim Im glad for you but he admitted it here that he dropped the ball.

So, in a nutshell, JFLO rcvd a shaft that was "loose", most likely from being cross threaded. Thus, JFLO sent it back, and JIm says not only will I fix it, but will build you another shaft. How am I doing thus far?

And then JFLO gets the cue back, and there is only ONE shaft, NOT two as promised. And the ONE has a "roll".

One that I would NOT be to pleased with from a custom cuemaker... heck, my Players that I use as house cues for my friends/family in my basement don't roll like that, and that's after being in my basement the last 10 years.

So, the solution is pretty simple. Jim owes ONE shaft to JFLO, and a straight one would be nice. Thus, JFLO would have the 2 shafts he was promised and at least one of them is very straight and would most likely satisfy JFO. JFLO can use the "bad" shaft in the dive bars, and just be a needed back up.

So, how about Jim. One shaft, a tad "smoother" now, and you are good to go, and JFLO is back to being a happy customer that he should be, and snowman will be happy as well that you did this, and future customers will see you step up to the plate, which many in the past here refused to do.

C'mon, lets get this done, it's not personal, it's business. I've heard some good things about you and only two negative things... this is the second negative thing I've heard, eventually the reputiation is won or lost through perception, not reality sometimes.

Thank you for sharing we can come to our own conclusions but unlike this poster who obviously condones such behavior ,, honor among thieves type thing I guess would just let others get similar treatment and not say a word ,,

Dive Bars?

Dive Bars really?
Ill have you know that some of the establishments I frequent even have indoor plumbing now. So be careful how you address me lol

P.S they have even cleaned up the blood and chalk outlines. How about that carpet at Chris's lol

What thread is it ,, Also a taper roll is pretty standard ,, I rolled all my shaft one day that being about 25 and not one was dead straight ,, I told a friend of mine who sell predators he took all his shafts out brand new and very few were dead straight out of 40 shafts ,,

This is exactly right! Very few shafts don't have a slight taper roll, I have even seen the roll vary depending on the temp and humidity of the pool hall I was in:)

I agree 100% with Spider...Jim has always been stand up with me, he has went far and above...even loaning me his personal player when I was down and out:) Out of roughly 25 cues he has made for me ONE had a finish bubble, and he promptly corrected the issue...one thing I know for sure, he does not react well to name calling and other similar BS, but if you treat him right he will repay you ten fold! PS. I saw a pic of the "cross thread"...and someone MANGLED those threads! There is absolutely ZERO chance Jim sent the cue out like that...Period.

Your absolutely right.

Your absolutely right. Or are you? How many threads have you seen in the for sale section where they say that the cue is straight together and apart. Are they all lying or are they all wrong. Please let us know. Jim states in this thread it left his shop perfectly straight. what gives? was he lying or wrong?
Thanks for reading.

Thats Funny

Thats funny cause Jim texted to me that the shaft was not cross threaded but only needed a new tip. He said it shot lights out. Thanks for you help.

Well I mean no offense...however since I don't know you, and have dealt with Jim for over 3 years without ny issues...I will have to side with him on this matter...good luck with your future deals

FYI something doesn't have to be round to be straight. So the question is.....Is it straight?

Many custom made shafts are straight but have taper roll due to a "person" turning the shaft down with various pressures.

Ray

That is what I am thinkin too. having owende a lot of cues...I can honestly say that in my experience, shafts are rarely perfectly round. Straight is a must-have to me, doin isn't,

I have 10 shafts that fit my playing cue and literally, only one is straight and round.

Hope the parties reach a workable agreement.
