Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

I'm here to help, that's my job and I have the best "boss" in the world.

CJ, I'm sorry to keep coming off as so negative, but the whole situation is just so pathetic right now it's downright sad. I don't have the answer and never claimed to, but I have a much better understanding of how the non-playing public feels about the game because I'm a lot closer to where they come from. I agree that they need to become students of the game, so why pick a complicated game to teach them about? I actually believe that would be a fatal flaw in any bid for success in professional pool.

It's not complicated, it's much like poker, you can predict percentages in every situation.....every shot will have a shot percentage posted and a "two way shot" percentage posted, and the odds of the player shooting or passing, etc.

Unless you've played the game a lot you won't follow what I'm saying exactly, and that's ok. I'm here to help, that's my job and I have the best "boss" in the world....he just doesn't pay any money, but I get to socialize with lots of interesting personalities. :D

"The Master Game's Magic Bullet"

I want to thank everyone that has been involved with this thread....it may go down in history.

After spending a few hours writing and explaining my thoughts on 'Two Shot Shoot Out' something dawned on me that I had never thought of before.

I had a meeting with some of my "Think Tank" group and explained what had developed and the epiphany I had about what the "missing link" of pool production "could be". We all added something to the revelation and soon it was apparent what had happened, the light had came on!

They lit up like Christmas trees..... "That's it! ....that's the "magic bullet" we've been looking for!!!"

I knew I was driven to talk about 'Two Shot Shoot Out' and how great a game it is, but I didn't "real eyes" where it was heading. This forum has been a "Think Tank" in it's own respect for us here in Texas......we've discovered many things and actually made three DVDs since first using this forum to create the "creative synergy".

Life is like the Pledge of Allegiance, it starts with "I" and always ends with "ALL".

I want to thank my friend Bobby Dickerson for explaining to me what the forum was all about last year, and everyone that enjoys coming on here and sharing ideas, concepts and revelations about the "Master Game"....the game of pocket billiards. 'The Game is the Teacher'

I'm glad you are catching on "Grasshopper"! You didn't "real eyes" the full intent of my starting this post in the first place until it sank in!

Pool's "Magic Bullet' that would have the power to draw non playing people to watch

You may be be connected to something very big in the future of pool. I just got off the phone with one of my friends that could make this happen very soon, and we're meeting on Thursday to discuss these new developments. We've been planning the TV aspect, and we were stuck on the game's actual presentation formula "the true hook".

There was still a key element missing and that was what I set out to discover.....Pool's "Magic Bullet' that would have the power to draw non playing people deeply into the game.......and I just couldn't figure it out....however, sometimes perseverance pays off...it just takes the ability to be patient...which is not my "forte". ;)

This is from one of my blogs last year, but it was missing something and I have been overly curious what it could be....what would make pool extremely interesting to people that don't play the game? What are we not seeing, what is the missing component?

Pool is very much like Boxing, but instead of flurries of punches you have flurries of shots, or at the upper level flurries of racks. Instead of hooks and jabs you have draws and stuns, instead of knock out punches, you have knock out breaks, instead of ducking and dodging you're kicking and playing safe, you don't lose blood but you do lose pride, instead of 15 rounds you must win 15 games.... 9 Ball is the best TV Game, it's fast and easy to follow because there's always just one target for the fans to follow. Like Boxing there's a pre show of the brutal training the two players have to go through to compete. And of course the championship Belt.

We have a leader in the clubhouse !....Mr. CJ Wil-ey leads ALL posters..309, to only 298 for the NEXT FIVE PLACES !..Amazingly..this seems to be his average on every thread he enters !

We should all be thankful for his presence on the forum..The wisdom he has shared with us illiterates, is immeasurable !.. Some have been so crass, as to have called him.."obnoxious, overbearing, self agrandizing, self promoting, braggadocious, boastful, condescending, despicable, insulting, and many other "unfair" (and sometimes profane) descriptive terms" !

And those are just the people who have clue, what the hell he is talking about !..I, for one, am glad to have him aboard..He has single handedly convinced me, that I knew a lot more about pool (at age 17) than he does now !..And for that, I shall be forever grateful !

Look at the AZB "Forum Hog"I found wandering the streets last
night, babbling,"two shot fouls, two shot fouls, two shot...blah,
blah ! ...I put him in bed with my dog, look what happened !

And "WHAT" have "ANY" of the "OTHER" "PROs" contributed to the AZB forums?

People can ridicule whomever or whatever they like, but he is one of the "FEW" who interact with forum members. Some may say, "it's because he is SELLING something (or HIMSELF), but IMHO whatever he says or does is "INCREASING" some sort of discussion in the pool world. That is "WAY MORE" than I see "ANY" of the "OTHER" "PROs" doing!!!!

Thanks, and no matter what people say you are at least an APA "7", not a "6"....unless you've been drinking too much of course.

"Be nice and don't, SJD, die lonely" :D

Don't even bother. He's just a bitter old apple face posting stupid ass cartoon clips.
Thanks for being on this forum. Pro anything's don't give a shit about people. At least you come on here and interact with us. Now quit ****in and fix pool.

It's been a lot of fun conversing about a lot of topics with so many cool people.

We achieved our goal on azbilliards yesterday (no, we didn't sell a DVD;)), we finally figured out what the pocket billiard's "Magic Bullet" is and will go to the next phase in our TV Production Plan.

The entire future of pool on TV revolves around understanding and implementing what's worked with other sports and games. Poker's "Magic Bullet" happened when they started showing the "Hole Cards," and golf when Jack, Arnold, and Gary did the TV Series the Wonderful World of Golf they discovered their "Magic Bullet'.

Many on this forum have pointed out that pool is boring and will never had mass appeal. I was beginning to think they were right and it was getting gloomy to think that the Game would never have it's chance in the spotlight again.

Now, after yesterday we can clearly see that this is not the case at all. Pocket Billiards has all the essential qualities, they've just been hidden for many years and no one seemed to notice what happened. The answer isn't necessarily in the rules, however, though the slow process of changing the game it was diluted and watered down into what now is something that truly was not marketable. No matter what anyone was to do they would never have "saved pool" the way it was.....it was simply impossible.

9 Ball is a fantastic game when played by the original rules.....however, playing "One Foul ball in hand" is a pale version of the original game (it showcases the boring aspects and eliminates the best ones that chamber the "magic bullet")......we'd say it's only about 10% as good considering the production and commentary factors......that means it can be 10 times better, and that's enough to be successful again. What great news for me, just when we thought of giving up.

Only after making the comparisons between 'Two Shot Shoot Out' and One Pocket did we "real eyes" what we've all been missing. It wasn't about comparing the two Games and it also didn't matter which one was more strategically difficult. What did matter is to understand what the strengths and weaknesses of each game was and if something instrumental could be changed to pursue mass media marketing......the answer not is a definate "yes"....it clearly will! The components are all there, just like all other sports.

It's a lot of fun conversing about a lot of topics with so many cool people. The majority of players and fans on this forum are extremely pleasant and curious about how to better their games. When it gets really popular again we will all look back at some of these conversations and have a good laugh....I look forward to that day, it's right around the corner from what I can see....it even appears that Bonus Ball will succeed and that's just "icing on the cake". I hope everyone involved with pool finds success asap.

Our initial reason for coming on this site was to produce free videos for the owners of azbilliards and we all took a much different path. Maybe we can go back to the original plan and I can produce some instructional videos on specific topics to add to their site and hopefully be useful to those that want to learn what gifts we're able to share.

Let me know if there's any special topics discussed in the last year that anyone wants me to cover. I can always be reached at thegameistheteacher@gmail.com with any questions and I'll still post through the end of this month and see what develops.

That's interesting......maybe we can sell some mattresses too in the process. :D

Does anyone know what the rating were like back in the day on ESPN? When two top players were in the finals. Men and women. Also with an event like the Mosconi Cup. Guessing when you add team USA to anything the ratings might go up. Now you have someone to root for instead of watching. I live in Maryland and my interest in a Raven game is much high than watching any two other teams. Like him or not but Earl is a character. He brings interest. People who don't like him probably still watch just to see what he does. If every player wore masks you wouldn't notice much difference in how the game is played unless you have a real appreciation for the game. Most times the announcer will tell you everything the player is going to do. Not much mystery at the pro level.

. If every player wore masks.......

If every player wore masks, you'd still be able to pick out Earl. He'd be the guy in a mask who was wearing weights and earphones and carrying a BIG stick. As far as the others, it may be a guessing game. :)

Do you try to make the game or the players more interesting? I have no idea how to make pool more interesting to WATCH. Personally I think you have to find a way to draw viewers in first. Reality TV is huge. They take unknown people and make them superstars over night. Good producer can take the most mundane topic with the right production, characters and make a hit. I am sure if you put the right group of players in a van and put them on the road going from state to state tourney to tourney. You could have a hit.

Yes, the commentators do their best, but basically they are just trying to guess what the player will do next. This is like predicting what's going to happen in a movie next, it's ok at first, then it gets monotonous fast.

They can't help the Game, it's all the material they can use in One Foul because There's very little strategy (the player has two options, try to run out or try to play safe). One pocket would be better, but it's way to slow for TV, and many of the shots are "do nothing" defense or "moving" shots.

Here's one of our shows that got the highest rating I know of, it had 3.8 Million People watch it according to what ESPN told us in 1996. This one was the 'Battle of the Sexes' and it was for $100,000 in 1996...CLICK HERE TO VIEW

If you think changing the game is the answer I disagree but I am nobody. Trick shots were/are on ESPN.? Probably more interesting to watch from a viewing standpoint. The trick shot artist were able to talk to the crowd and make people laugh. Viewers were amazed by what they were able to do with a cue. How is that doing today? I honestly have no idea as I haven't watched pool on tv in a long time.

To Sloppy Pockets

I stand corrected for misinterpreting what you were saying in your post to CJ, Sloppy Pockets.
*sees Sloppy Pockets spotting himself out to a well heeled chump at a snooker table by giving up 35 points. Then when the mark isn't looking, the Flash slyly keeps easing red balls back up on the table.

Thank Goodness, the game is on it's way to being in the spotlight again.

Changing the game is not the answer. Taking what the game is, identifying what makes it entertaining and what doesn't, and then stucturing it in a way that showcases the positive while reducing the negative IS STILL NOT the answer.

Figuring out a way to emotionally involve the viewing audience in every game the same way that 4th Down and One, with 37 Seconds to go is the answer....however, there's a particular order of events that consummate this process, and that's where the "gold" is.

It took us years to understand how this is possible. Thank Goodness, the game is on it's way to being in the spotlight again.....or not. ;) ........only time will tell.
