Proposed TAR - TOI VS NO AIMING SYSTEM

I want to thank everyone that has been involved with this thread....it may go down in history.

After spending a few hours writing and explaining my thoughts on 'Two Shot Shoot Out' something dawned on me that I had never thought of before.

I had a meeting with some of my "Think Tank" group and explained what had developed and the epiphany I had about what the "missing link" of pool production "could be". We all added something to the revelation and soon it was apparent what had happened, the light had came on!

They lit up like Christmas trees..... "That's it! ....that's the "magic bullet" we've been looking for!!!"

I knew I was driven to talk about 'Two Shot Shoot Out' and how great a game it is, but I didn't "real eyes" where it was heading. This forum has been a "Think Tank" in it's own respect for us here in Texas......we've discovered many things and actually made three DVDs since first using this forum to create the "creative synergy".

Life is like the Pledge of Allegiance, it starts with "I" and always ends with "ALL".

I want to thank my friend Bobby Dickerson for explaining to me what the forum was all about last year, and everyone that enjoys coming on here and sharing ideas, concepts and revelations about the "Master Game"....the game of pocket billiards. 'The Game is the Teacher'

Good post...that's what I think of AZ...a think tank.

And I don't entirely agree with any one poster on this thread....
...but I don't entirely disagree either.

I especially appreciate the views of CJ, SJD, Sean, and Neil.

And y'all remember...you'll never learn a thing from a man who agrees with you.

This is one of my favorite threads ( I gave it the rating)
....and it aint over yet

Do we Promote the Game or the Players First? The answer is important!

Do you try to make the game or the players more interesting?
For pool to become popular quickly, the game must take a back seat at first. The primary story needs to be about the characters involved, not the game. No game has a draw without the personalities leading the way. History backs that up 100%.

When I was playing full time there were several of us that promoted in our own areas of the country (and some nation/world wide), Jeanette Lee, Vivian, Allison, Sigel, Hopkins, Hall, Miz, Archer, Davenport, Varner, West, Martin, Wilson, and of course Keith M. and several others were in 'The Color of Money' , ' The Baltimore Bullet' and even 'Pool Hall Junkies'.

There's no doubt what Mosconi and Fats did in, and as a result of the movie 'The Hustler'....however, even without movies it's VITALLY IMPORTANT to do press releases to local magazines, newspapers, and local news TV Stations.....

I would advise the younger players to do your part to promote yourself and if you have any questions on how to get started or need advise on how to write the press releases contact me anytime.

Some of us on here have been saying that for years now. For proof of it, one needs to look no further than the show "Ax Men". How exciting is it to watch someone cut down tree after tree. It's like watching paint dry. Yet, the show is a success because of the way they portray the characters in it. And the way they created a rivalry so we have someone to root for.

People need someone to root for. The game by itself is only the medium, not the "show".

we had some nervous "ducks" in last night.

The duck is the teacher.

And we're not talking about SJD.

We're gambling high every night in Ft. Worth at Rusty's Billiards playing One Pocket and "Two Shot Shoot Out' 9 Ball......we had some nervous "ducks" in last night. :welcome:

y the match betwix the WILEY 1 and SC BARTRAM is a 10 to 1 shot of coming 2 fruition. for now;)

Cj's in Texas, Bartram is where. Can't we all pitch in and get him a plane ticket.
9 ball and one pocket. Those were two of the games they said were ok right.

Both nights had break contests worth $500. a ball.

We're playing every night down here in Ft. Worth. Coy Lee, Ermin Bollard, Joey Barns, and 28 other players were playing in tournaments the last two nights. Both nights had break contests worth $500. a ball.

I will play any USA player 'Two Shot Shoot Out' as I've said many times in this thread. The economy here in Texas is the best it's been in history, so it's a great place to work, play and be entertained.

Aloha, Pool Season is Finally Here. :D

I believe the shot shot should come up much more often, it's a fantastic "test shot"

We've been talking about rules in 9 Ball and we ran across this article on our Million Dollar Challenge Tournament ....the one Earl ran 11 racks for the ultimate prize.

We noticed that in the article we had some unique rules changes and I'm pretty sure if we would have continued our momentum (provided Earl hadn't ran those racks) we would have incorporated many more, leaning towards 'Two Shot Shoot Out' rules.

Notice we did bring back the potential for a "Spot Shot" although I believe the shot shot should come up much more often, it's a fantastic shot to test a player's ability to make key shots under pressure.....these shot don't come up playing "one foul ball-in-hand".

Here's the article written in the 'AMERICAN CUEST' by author JIM WEST:

The First event of the PCA tourproved to be a resounding success, drawing 40 players from around the US,Mexico and Canada, providing some fine matches and making history in more ways than one.

Wednesday night started off with a VIP/media party to honor the tournament and benefit (former Dallas Cowboy) Tony Hill's 4th Annual Texas Shootout for AMC cancer research. The player's meeting followed then the player's draw was held by tournament directors Jay Helfert of Championship Billiards, and John McChesney and Robin Adair of Texas Express Promotions Group. Top seeds Earl Strickland and Cj Wiley were placed at the top and bottom of the chart (no byes). Play began on Thursday morning at 11. At 8 pm that evening Earl Strickland matched up against Nick Maninno and he started out by running the first 5 racks. Bet out your cameras folks, it's show time! It became apparent that Earl had a shot at the $1,000,000 so the officials were called out and the cameras started rolling. Earl ran game 6,7,9 on the break in game 8, ran game 9, but on game 10 he was left after the break with a tough table length combination with the cue ball at one end near the pocket, the one ball near the side pocket about 10" from the same rail and the 9 about 3" from the pocket on the other end of the table. What to do, what to do, back cut the cobo or go for the run out. Earl cranked up and went for the combo and BAM!, the rest as they say, is history. The crowd went wild and after about 30 minutes of celebrating the match continued with Earl running yet another rack. The odds of that happening are about 7.8 million to 1. Strickland later said that's about how many racks he's shot since he ran 10 in a row once before, 16 years ago.

This tournament was blessed with a lot of fine, tight matches and a lot of great players, known and heretofore unknown, that wil be remembered for a long time. It seems that many of the players featured in the recent book 'Playing Off the Rail' were in attendance either in the tournament or on the sidelines, including the subject of the book Tony Annigoni as well as Amarillo Slim, Jimmy Fusco, Ginky San Souci, Jose Parica, Ismael (Morro) Paez. The atmosphere was very upbeat, even among the losers as the excitement of being in the first PCA tourney and the changes that it will bring were the order of the day among the players. Can congenial and Earl Strickland be used in the same sentence? Yes.

There were some new innovations introduced by the PCA such as a dress code, scratch on the 9-ball (last remaining object ball) opponent has ball-in-hand behind the head string and last but not least, players break their own rack.

There were plenty of close contests to give the crowd it's money's worth all the way up to the finals. On young man, Max Eberle, 23, brought his fine strategic moves all the way from Arlington, VA to finish fourth, while wearing a tux no less, until Paul Potier finally stopped him. Paul in turn, played CJ Wiley to the hill when he missed a cut on the 6-ball and that was all she wrote with CJ taking the match to face the navo riche Earl Strickland in the final match.

RESULTS

1st CJ WIley
2nd Earl Strickland

There's stake horses "champing at the bit" to put players in action.

y the match betwix the WILEY 1 and SC BARTRAM is a 10 to 1 shot of coming 2 fruition. for now;)

Don't worry someone will play.....sooner or later. In the mean time I was in action all night last night at Rusty's Billiards in Ft. Worth and Coy Lee was drawn for the $500. a ball break and run contest. I played One Pocket all night and the guy that I was playing reached me in the finals (or I reached him, I took the loss in the finals of the winners bracket)..... we just split the finals ca$h and continued to gamble playing "one hole".

Where else can you get chance to win $4500. for $10? I won $7000. in 2 weeks last winter, and stopped going......maybe I should have continued. ;) Here in Ft. Worth they are filling 32 man tournaments with a waiting list of several more players. There's stake horses "champing at the bit" to put players in action, not for huge money, but there's something to be said about consistency over "one time action".

Gambling at pool is addictive as long as it's in the right environment and everyone wants to enjoy themselves.

Now, when we just show everyone 'Two Shot Shoot Out' we'll have the same degree of action as in the 80s.....it's just a matter of time, once gamblers start playing the Shoot Out rules, like poker it becomes addictive. I believe all gamblers really like the "mental sparring"......and in "One Foul ball-in-hand" no one gets that same feeling.....it's like playing poker with all the cards facing up, there's no strategic possibilities.......that's why it's so boring, all we have to do is put strategic components back in the Game and the game will do the rest of the work. Well Mr. Wiley,

Most of us realize, when they have reached a saturation point on any given subject !..That is why I have changed my avatar, and backed off on the "Wil-e Coyote-RoadRunner" show !.

Apparently a few others enjoyed it though, as I received over two pages of green rep's, (and only one 'poor sport' red rep) That's about a 70 to 1 ratio, and many from guy's I thought were "Coyote Dangler's"..I bring this up, only in the hope that you may stop, or at least curtail, your NEVER-ENDING monologue, about the virtues of '2 shot-shoot out' over Texas Express..You haven't even noticed, that everyone (including moi) agrees with you ! :embarrassed2:

It is STILL just 'paint by the numbers' boring 9ball, and you can't change that by trying to convince people of the 'mental challenge' that only YOU, and a few others can possibly comprehend !.. Don't you see, that is a complete MINUS, not a PLUS, when it comes to promoting better viewer understanding ?

I PM'd you, in hopes that you may see the error of your ways, and hopefully get behind Hawiian Eye, and his excellent concept of the Rogan/Pacqaou (sp) and Earl/Efren match-up !..Not surprisingly, I got a "Not interested" for my effort !. I should have known, that you would not want anything to do, with ANYTHING that did not originate from your HUGE, OVER-INFLATED ego !

As I said before, I wish you every success in your new venture, and I hope you can come up with SOMETHING beneficial to the game of pool..I do hope you will change your 'tactic's though..because the direction you are headed, the Coyote STILL has NO CHANCE, of EVER catching the Road Runner ! :p

PS..I have NO cartoon that would remotely point out, how far you are OFF COURSE !

I thought those were some nice compliments

I wish you the best too my friend, life's an adventure when it's not taken seriously.

Some guy that calling himself "One Eyed Tony" sends his regards and said "I taught SJD everything he knows, but I didn't teach him everything I know".....then he just disappeared.....it was a kinda surreal moment, but I was playing One Pocket and wasn't paying close attention....you know how cerebral that game can be. ;)

One of your old road buddies was in the pool room last night and said you were a good player and had gamble......although he quickly said he could beat you on the "bar rag".

I thought those were some nice compliments, notoriously, pool players are reluctant to pass out thoughtful compliments.

. The owner of the shopping center is a lover of pool and knows the top players

CJ how close are you to opening your new pool room?

We have the floor-plan and the lease was sent to us today. The owner of the shopping center is a lover of pool and knows the top players from the 90s....what's the odds of that?

My group had a recent epiphany and are looking forward to what the future holds. The greatest thing about life is the "not knowing".

The game honestly has never had it's "shot," although the movies 'The Hustler' and 'The Color of Money' put it in the spot light for a number of years.

It's time for the "New Age of Pocket Billiards," many of the older players would have loved to live to see this day and age.....we're lucky to have the opportunity for change.

Dear Mr. Wiley,

Your profound (but semi-'dark side') observations, seem to be endless !..Often, only YOU know what you are talking about !..I have no idea who this 'One-Eyed Tony' character might be, and I had dozen's of "old road buddies" during my time in your fair state !..Names would be preferred, over generalities !..

If I may borrow your "Brag Hat" for a minute, I should like to enlighten you on a few things ! (AGAIN)..I had probably peaked at my 9ball/8ball game, on ANY size table at that time..and no one in Texas HAD to win, at ANY game ! (especially 2-shot foul 9ball)..As for one pocket, NO ONE in the state could win !..Most needed weight, and there were VERY few 'imports' who HAD to win..And I played them ALL !

I moved from Dallas, to Houston, to Shreveport !..Eventually, the action dried up, and I moved to Phx. in '73, got married, settled down, and gave up pool for 20 years !.. When I started playing again, in '93 (at 60 yrs old) I was still very competitive, and played some of my best 1P for the next 10 yrs.

So maybe when you have eight decades under your belt, you'll look back with a sense of accomplishment on your career, and you won't like anyone making light of it either !
