Pros with Sneaky Petes

Does anyone know of any pros who play with sneaky petes? :confused: I've never seen anyone use one on a televised match...
 
I've seen plenty of pred. sneaky petes. Even though I think they are really ugly. The guy who won that bank ring game at the DCC last year had one.

Richie Rich plays with a Scruggs sneaky pete I believe when he played Alex Pagulayan one pocket on one of the big tournaments.
 
I see a lot of very good players on the LA area who play with Al Romero Sneaky Petes. So much so that I now automatically assume anyone I see with one must be good. I can't think of any with national name recongnition, but I'm sure a few top players now may well have started out with one of these.
 
Kid delicious Danny Basovich used one made by Pete Tascarella using a Gus Zamboti made housecue for years. He is sponsered now so he no longer uses it.

I know Mike Davis plays/played with a sneaky pete. I think Eddie Anderson from PA is the maker.

Yes, Mike Davis plays with a 60" Eddie Anderson sneaky with a Predator Z shaft.
 
SP no longer sneaky

See a lot of shortstops using very plain jane Al Romero SP, including Al Romero. The only tell is usually the brown phenolic joint collar. If you see this cue, think twice.

I find the Romero SP's have a quite distinctive patina developed over time as they don't have the thick varnish finish usually found on house cues. I also notice the shafts are almost always filthy looking, but the players who use them never want to change anything. (I know one who had a shaft snapped at the joint repaired rather than replace it.)

The other obvious tell is to be using an SP at all in a room full of people with fanicier cues. Real beginner players tend to use either a fancy-looking decal cue or a plain-jane "merry widow" style cue.

The best hustle these days is not a SP at all but a cue with a football team logo on it, or better still an air-brushed werewolf. I have even heard tell of good cuemakers affixing Budweiser labels to a custom cue.

I've played in many a bar with a Budweiser cue from K-mart and an unmarked Predator shaft.

There's one on ebay right now for a pretty decent buying price if you really want one.

I remember reading that Scott at Proficient Billiards made a pretty sporty Budweiser conversion by adding one of his shafts.

I just picked up a Foxx and Hound butt and am either going to purchase a shaft from Manwon that he buys in bulk or look for some other 5/16-18 style shaft (Preferably Meucci, or 314/314(2, or Tiger) to play with it.
