First, I like Pupleheart on a house cue, or a 2 piece conversion.

BUT, most of the customs I have seen with Purpleheart I have NOT liked.

I don't know if it is the other woods that have been used with it on a custom or not, but the purpleheart always seems like it doesn't look right, The colors don't go together well or something.

I would like to see a custom or two where purpleheart looks good with the other woods, maybe bacote or burl. Anyone out there have a custom with purpleheart that looks good please post pictures of.

And what do you think of purpleheart?

It's just an unattactive color, and grain too. Reminds me of grape Kool-Aid.
But I too, for a reason I couldn't explain, didn't hate the ph sneaky petes.

One man's meat is another man's poison. Personally, I think purple heart is one of the most attractive woods in the world.

Purpleheart is one of cuemakers' favorite woods.
Stable, dense and heavy.
Not oily, a little chippy but not as bad as oak or black palm or zebrawood.
A sneaky pete with purple handle outhits cues costing thousands of dollars.

I love purpleheart. There are very few woods I don't like though. But I do agree purpleheart as a forearm or big chunks of it seem to be a bit off. The only cue I can remeber having a purpeheart forearm and looked attractive to me was a cue that was wrapless. Had a purpleheart forearm and butt and a tulipwood handle. Quite an amazing looking cue. MAybe it's just the wood that the cuemakers match the purpleheart with that make it look unattractive. But they know a hell of a lot more than I do.;)

If I ever see taht cue again I'll be sure to post pics.

I like it!!!!

Scott, I like purpleheart, but not as a main wood. Here are pics of my latest aquisition, ebony with purpleheart veneers and highlights... and of course, turquoise... guess it's the Cherokee in me! LOL

Wow Cane! What a beautiful cue! I have always liked purpleheart!

KSgirl, Thanks! I've drooled over this cue ever since I met Jerry and got my first cue from him. It finally came up for sale (WAY out of the normal budget for a retired military income) so I gave Jerico a down payment and am paying it out monthly. Can't wait until the last payment is made. It also has a matching ebony/PH Stinger J/B that comes with it. Damn, getting chills thinking about it! LOL

You may see quite a few good looking purpleheart cues if you go to www.ArnotQ.com and click on 'Site Map' and then 'Sold Cue Gallery' (I went ahead and got the proper link: http://www.arnotq.com/pages/ACSindex1.html ) Here is a link to my two purpleheart cues

Thanks for the link. Saw some I liked pretty well, but more importantly saw some beautiful examples of good wood. I am drawn to Bacote with good grain in it, rosewood was pretty, coco was very nice, and other woods.
I guess my love for good wood originally started as a boy and my paternal
grandfather hand made bows and arrows, and continued with my Dad's love for woodworking.

What scientific device do you use to Measure Hit, and Gauge one woods hit against another wood hit?

I really like PH. I saw Santos' curly purpleheart and ivory PFD a year or so ago and it was quite amazing. Very nice wood.

my personal playing cue

purpleheart brunswick conversion, ivory joint, 60" cue, 18.50 oz., leather wrap, 30" shaft with ivory ferrule and a 29" predator 314

I love purpleheart.

In a couple of months I'll be posting pics of the most gorgeous curly purpleheart anyone has seen. God I hate waiting for cues...

Purpleheart is just ok to me. I like cocobolo, curly maple, snakewood, tulipwood and a bunch of other woods more than purpleheart.

It is not just you, it is me also, and many others. :)

Same here. I use a lot of exotic woods on my fly rod reel seats, and one of my fav's is Burl Maple, but good Bocote, Cocobolo, Thuya Burl, Lacewood... oh, hell, there are literally hundreds of great looking woods out there that I'd like to have a cue made from... Now, if I can just get that Money Tree to start bearing!

My vote is "love it". I'm not Jimbo when it comes to purpleheart, but when used in a well executed design, I think it really pops. It also has really nice properties to the wood...hardness, stability, harmonics, etc...to make for a solid hitting players cue. PH is definitely one of my favorite woods.

PurpleHeart-

I think it is one of the nicest woods available. Here is picture of my Capone cue with Purpleheart Points into ebony.

To each his own-
