The way it ended up....maybe not

--------------------

Right now at the time I am writing this your poll shows 12 people would give lessons
and 10 people would contribute money, and your percentages have that adding up to 100%. You however don't have an area to check for the people who would not give lessons or money. Unless I am wrong in the way I'm viewing this that means that the
percentages mean nothing.

There for the take away from this poll is meaningless, at least in my view the way it is set up.

Itsfroze,

This was the first poll I ever set up and the way the prompts are and I haven't taken a poll is forever I had no idea what I was trying to set up but.....

The way it ended up is far from meaningless what it does separate is how many of us would actually do something to help pool vs. those that just sit on the sidelines. If you look at the number of clicks we have gotten and figure that everyone comes back to read the latest comments a few times not to mention the lurkers that don't sign in. It makes you wonder how many people are actually on this site and even cared to look.

I agree I could have tried to cover less bases but the stats are there if you care to approximate them generally because they are what they are. Without further comment about the results that's all I know to say, but your point is well taken.

Robin,

I was not trying to be harsh with my statement, only pointing out that it is very
hard to figure out what a % means when the whole group is not taken into account.
Sorry if what I said came off differently.

No Harm Done

No harm done. I actually agree I didn't do a wonderful job setting up the poll. It was early and my fingers weren't working well either so I left a character out as well on contribute...oh well. You know what they say about the road to hell being paved with good intentions.....it surely is.....lol....

If there was a league that would take some of the money and put it towards sponsoring Pro players and Pro events, I'd do that. Even if they said it will be a few dollars more per week for your league play. Many people I see at league spend $10-20 on beer each night, I don't see an issue for raising a few extra dollars from league players for advertizing, lessons and pro events for everyone.

I don't think I'd just pay into an organization outright.

I already donate to a handicap league and I do teach a lot of people but not many people listen to me.

I know the feeling. Ive seen people playing so bad it was unreal but they couldn't listen to some real help if they tried so I call it .....Testosterone Poisoning....its just got a grip on em. Nothing you can do.

Hangthe9,

I agree with a lot of what you said and some I don't but I would hope that anyone that would create an organization that they would be really careful to try and not make promises that might later be broken because of money and part of what they do was grassroots. I have to agree if we had a dollar per league player per week or even .25c nationwide that would do an awful lot for pool and this way pool leagues could structure themselves to helping the sport they make their livings off of, but that might not ever happen.

I think its likely clear to people that the Pro Part of the equation needs some help and organization what I don't pretend to know but without the legs of a grassroots system of support Pool just seem impossible to help because it is in such a disarray. I know this only from my dealing with this book I wrote and the people in the Industry I know, this is not my living and I have other things to do with my time but I feel strongly about helping the sport and I would just about bet that if given the chance a lot of people would help pool if they knew that what they were doing would pay dividends for years to come which was why I introduced the idea of the Common Pool Trust.

I would not have a problem donating to it myself and regardless of the people that do not feel the same way I do, I think that a lot of people would come on board including yourself.

I can certainly understand that if I were a professional player how I might feel about the bottom falling out from under me and I would grasp at every straw I could to try and make a living for myself. These players had to first love the game and that should count for something. I just think that we have the power to do something positive and I can only hope that the cast of characters that assemble come together at some point and are respected enough to be trusted by the players we have left, and the people who would or could be supporters that people would open up their hearts and wallets so that we can stop the blood flow from the sport and retain some dignity and show the world that we might be down but we sure aren't out and that pool in the United States will come back and kick some major ass because at home someone believes that it can. I will be absent from this discussion for awhile because I have a tendency to be a cheerleader and I don't represent the feelings of a lot of people. I don't make my living at this but I do have more things pool I intend to do with things I write and some other things on the back burner but to quote a very close friend of mine.......There are easier ways to make money so perhaps those of us who don't make our living at it ought not to make it solely about the money and think of more as fun and support for something we love.

As implied by others before me: 'what's in for me?'

I think a equally apt question would be "what's in it for pool?"

Tons of people have come on here with this hyped up "rah rah" attitude with their pom poms waving around and they have no freaking clue what to do with the money if they ever got it or they simply end up ripping the whole system off, paying themselves a salary to do virtually nothing more then post some threads on AZBilliards (which most of us do for free simply because we love the sport) and act as if they actually earned the money somehow.

Who the heck are you 336Robin? Why is it that we are all supposed to see you as the savior of pool and get our wallets out? And if we don't give some random person who just happens to post on AZBilliards that no one seems to know we must all be haters? If this thread is any indication of your skills with people and business you are certainly "not" the person that anyone should be sending money to and you won't be saving this game.

I said nothing of the kind sir, read what I did say and ask me again. I asked no one for money only their feelings on the subject but I do understand how youre mistaken feelings could be directed towards me and its cool. I just think its a shame that a lot of people would criticize the sport but do little to help it. That's all. Youre obviously angry so lets just agree to disagree if nothing else.

That is incorrect.

Example: If you have fifty people that are for something and fifty people who are against
something, but only count the fifty people who are for whatever. Then conclude that 100%
of the people were for whatever, that would be extremely inaccurate!

You however don't have an area to check for the people who would not give lessons or money.

Please correct me if I am wrong here.

I tried checking both options but was only allowed to check one.

I've been a pool nut for a long time and will support it no matter what direction it goes.

I don't take anything too serious on AZBilliards. Just a bunch of catfish in muddy water looking for some clean fresh water.
