Q: SugarTree vs Tascarella

That is bad information . Eric is alive and well and making cues. Poolshark22 just got 4 of them.
I was aware that new stuff was still being turned out but I do recall reading somewhere that he was done or taking a break? Maybe he was just not going to take orders? I don't know, but I do recall hearing something along those lines.

Hence the newer guys get better education from the internet and other sources. When Pete started making cues he used some blanks GB had, Gus blanks and some from his brother in law..

Pete like all cuemakers before Al Gore invented the internet, had to rely on self teaching and pry what info he could out of who he knew. One thing I enjoy about guys that have history is there is a lot of things that can be learned from their years of growth. Guys like Pete, Black, Schick and Ernie.. if they had growth rings they would be the redwoods of cuemaking...

But the hits of these cues will be very different, but they will both be solid.

I have owned several of both and you really can't make a bad choice. The only thing I would caution you on is when purchasing a Tasc , especially an older one check the point work carefully . I have found the earlier cues the inner points are prone to the tips being less than perfect. Doesn't seem to be an issue with their new stuff

Tasc for sure. Based on resale value. If you don't care about resale value then you probably have to hit with them to see if you like it.

One makes a plain Jane with nice materials. The other makes engineered equipment the traditional way.

I have owned both. Both were great examples of each. If I had to purchase a new one it would be neither. I am not a fan of steel jointed cues and ivory ferrules on a playing cue. Sugartree hit very good but not in the same Leauge as some of my other cues such as a southwest or my lambros.

Just as an aside though. I sold both my Tasc and sugartree, but I ended up buying my Tasc back because I missed having it around. I hit with it every once in a while because it is a lot of fun to play with. The hit and sound are unlike anything I played with.

I though that he said he was retiring from cue making. He said it right on this forum if my memory is correct. If I am wrong I apologize.

He said he was not taking new orders, just focused on completing existing orders. Some dealers and collectors still receive his cues regularly, maybe they ordered some time ago. but I know there are some end customers or collectors who can still place orders from him, and he still accepts to work with some new orders. anyway it is great to see that he is still making cues. his cues play second to none.

Nothing beats a Sugartree

I would defo agree, bud.

I know this thread is old as heck,I am in the same boat, but damn this cue is just breathtaking, what an amazing wood selection, worth a bump
