This just now appeared in my inbox. By my calculation, that's roughly 2/3 added money. It seems to be at the same time as the Peri 9-ball Open in Vietnam.
not so bad if they use a wooden rack and/or alternate the breaki heard a few players were hesitant to go there because they're breaking with the 1 on the spot. but prize money sounds good
When and why did the Sands tournament stop? When will a major 9 ball event come to Reno? Just wishful thinking...
That's a good question, I'm guessing somewhere around 2010 or somewhere around that time. I think their program director there was named Barbara Woodward and I think she was a big supporter of the Sands holding the bi-annual events for all those years. I'm sure Jay would know more about this, maybe he could chime in on this. They were a hell of a lot fun for many years! When and why did the Sands tournament stop?
I think the main reason for the tournaments was the amateur events that ran along side the pro events (just before?). Those would bring in 200-300 amateurs. $39/night rooms helped. Those were USPPA handicapped events. I think everything stopped shortly after the owner of the USPPA, Gene Stary, died. As I vaguely recall, there were only one or two after that. When and why did the Sands tournament stop?
Bob is correct, those USPPA handicap events usually drew some 300 players or so from mostly northern Ca which ran the week before the pro event would take place. As Bob said the room rate was a very affordable $39 a night with the pool players discount code, who could afford not to go at those price with great buffets everywhere. This would all happen twice a year, January and June. I still have a bunch of those little metal 'special guests' clips they'd give you upon entry to the tournament area.I think the main reason for the tournaments was the amateur events that ran along side the pro events (just before?). I played in the pro event in 1988. After that, it was closed to non-pro entries. I went up several times hoping to see Efren play, but he never did well when I went. Really, kids, we used to have to physically go to events to see good players play.![]()
Bob, it's seems like a perfect place for pool. This just now appeared in my inbox. By my calculation, that's roughly 2/3 added money. It seems to be at the same time as the Peri 9-ball Open in Vietnam.

Probably never since it's a bigger dump than Atlantic city, not sure how that's possibleWhen will a major 9 ball event come to Reno? Just wishful thinking...
I'm a little concerned about the current WPA license wording. It appears -- I could be wrong -- that any player at Doha must agree to not play in the major Matchroom events. I think most/all of the Matchroom majors are large and international and have a large prize fund, and that puts them in the category of "WPA sanction required" for licensed players.
Many countries in Europe, Africa and South America use the comma instead of the period as we and other countries do and if the comma is the period then their period becomes our comma. So technically the "$2.000,00" is correct and the $5000,00 could also be "$5.000,00"The language that concerns me is the fixed rate for international referees. Most sports fans are familiar with corruption of judges of refs or bad calls. And why is there no mention of suspensions for referees that conduct themselves poorly. There are no punishments for refs or officials. That is the largest red flag for me.
I talk about refs because they make the most exciting calls during matches. There have been many and none were resolved adequately.

WPA events are government functions organized and financed by governments. Please remind players that governments are very strict when it comes to behavior at functions they are putting up the prize money for. The punishments for certain actions are clear in the player license agreement and sports regulation book.

The typo that gets me upset is $2.00 two dollars fine or $2,000,00 two hundred thousand dollar fine.
Who is doing the writing and proofreading? $5000,00 what number is this? Are the commas correct?
This is the writing level of the WPA on numeracy.
