Quarter sawn sugar maple

Thinking back....I really have to thanks some of these guys that bashed me when I first started on AZ...LOL...they really helped me market and sold out my blank inventory. The attention to the thread was the key.....it's good to see that this thread is now turning more positive for Reid.

Reid will have some of the best shaft wood you can find in Canada...he has been acquiring these shaft woods even before I met him 3-4 years ago...so I'm very curious to see his treasure chess. I will try to get some good photo of these sample shafts and help post on this thread for everyone to review.

Regards,
Duc.

Eric I'm glad you said something. I found myself scratching my head wondering what I missed here. This is exactly why I go the PM route instead of posting things. It's not worth the aggrivation. This may be the largest READ only pool forum in the world because not a whole lot of people want to participate in threads like this.

I will simply say give the guy a break- I am perfectly happy with Canadian Shaft wood. The old growth stood somewhere in Canada ( underwaterwood) And I pd. 300. each and bought 2 in a Szam style and in a Reyes style. What about Dennis Dieckman's shaft wood costs hundreds. Sounds just like some mill guys in MIchigan- keep on making sawdust- mark

i have some air dried shafts and they are fine and as stable as any other shafts i have.they are a little dark but they play well.

if these have been sitting in 1" squares for 8 years as the OP says then they are good to go.[/QUA

At the risk of putting myself on the chopping block. While I have only been building cues for a couple of years, I have worked with domestic hardwoods for a long time in the cabinet industry, in perticular maple. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldnt air dried maple have less internal stress from drying than kiln dried?

That's right, sort of. Air drying slowly releases moisture which is less stressful on the wood than forcing it out in a kiln. However, flat sawn wood that is stickered & stacked to lock it in a straight position will have internal stress no matter how it's dried.

I did meet him on Thursday, we talked for a few, as soon as he said where he was from this thread came to mind
and I felt compelled to apologize to him for the way he's been slammed here, must say he was nice enough guy.

I didn't get to see any wood, as he was tired of lugging it around all day and had stored it in his car (he didn't have a booth).
He was more than willing to go get some but I was in a hurry to see one of my players upcoming match and we just didn't hook up again.
I let him know that I was VERY interested and would contact him through the forum.

Reid, if you read this it's Paul (the guy in the wheelchair) PM me we need to talk, hope all is well.

He never called me at the SBE so I figured someone bought it all, I had no problem spending all my money there so no harm done

I saw him thursday and agreed to buy two of his samples in lieu of buying more whenever he got home. He was suppose to call me later because I let him walk around whith the samples(which I did not pay for)until I was ready to leave. Never heard from him again.
