Thanks in advance for any help i receive. I am buying a used 9 ft. Diamond table and have been told the pockets are pro cut and measure 4 1/4 or 4 3/8. My question : Is there a way to get these pockets back to the original size which I think is 4 1/2 ?
I dont think these pockets have been shimmed . I have been told that the table came like this and that is why it is called a pro cut pocket and there is no changing it.
Any help greatly appreciated !!!

I thought the pro cut was 4 1/2 and the pro am was a little larger

Diamond pockets

The pockets may be difficult to open up as much as you would like.Just like tightening the pockets the right way if the pockets are too big, it's quite a process to do the reverse. More than likely, the pocket facings are 3/16" thick neoprene, you might have them removed and put in 1/8" facings. That would open the pocket by 1/4" with a relatively easy process. You could either wait until you decide to recover the whole table or have the work done keeping the old cloth on the rails.

If they are standard "pro cut" pockets, they will be 4.5" at the mouth. The seller may be measuring incorrectly, especially if he didn't even give you a firm number. I'd bet its just a measurement error, rather than the pockets are legitimately much smaller. The other option is "league cut" pockets. These are much larger. Both of these options were offered from the factory for many, many years.

Only in the last 2 or 3 years has diamond offered from the factory a super tight pocket, tighter than the "pro cut" pocket. And of this pocket type, there are probably only a very small number of tables with it out there.

If in fact they are tighter than normal, yes they can be sized up with no problem, what area are you in?

True they offer a pocket cut to 3 7/8" at the pocket opening. costs around 600 extra from the factory when you order if I remember right. Procut should be 4 1/2" as you siad.

Sorry, Diamond has never offered corner pockets tighter than 4 1/8ths, I know, I tightened up a lot of the special order pocket requests at the factory before Diamond started offering pockets tighter than ProCut:wink:

Did you tighten the two at Jamie Farell's place?

I thought he got them straight from Diamond at 3 7/8"

I call the two new ones Devils in Blue Dresses.

The first is fine & I like it better now than before. But... the other two can play like Demons.

I always say, be careful what you ask for, you may not like it when you do get it:rotflmao1:

Then maybe I'm measuring the pocket wrong.

Or maybe you tightened mine at the factory

When I build out a Procut corner pocket to 4 1/2", where the 2 balls contact the inside edge of the pocket facings and sit half way in the pocket, they don't come into contact with the pocket points. So if you measure the points of my pockets they measure 4 7/16th, but net 4 1/2". You need to measure the inside of the pocket points with an adjustable set of calipers, then place the points on a ruler and measure the gape between the caliper points. Keep in mind, the ball contact 8s bow the pocket points.

Okay point to point with my calipers reads 4.087 inches. Sorry now I'm just curious what they are and the right way to measure. Thanks for the help. And to the OP sorry didn't mean to high jack your thread.
