to clarify a bit for those not familiar with it. it is not "unmoderated". spam is removed. anything really vile is removed.
you've been there enough to know that. I actually think people there have been more civil to you than many posts here on AZ, so i dont get your "i prefer a somewhat more civil environment" comment. somewhat of an uncalled for negative jab.
we just let adults be adults. we dont censor thoughts, or references to other forums. the truly belligerent will be tossed though. how many yanked threads have you been a part of here? Anything of yours ever yanked "there"?
this isn't a post to advertise another forum this is just a response to an unwarranted knock of another forum that has a very high percentage of people that really enjoy using both places(like myself) as well as some the more popular and highly esteemed posters here, as each site has it's own pro's and cons. haven't seen ya over there in while Jb, come on in the water's fine.

I personally think a wild west type section is a great idea. as long as there is a sheriff and he only removes the spam, truly vile, and/or xxx explicit images, and disable rep there that would be pointless, and then just Let the crap fly when it does. It holds the potential for so much humor.
you can make one section OT and one pool related.
as far as controlling who can visit it why even try, your kids are getting dirty words and pictures from every other site on the interwebs. just sticky a disclaimer about R rating it. as for those who wouldn't want to see it or think that's beneath them, then they don't have to enter there. If you dont like the show then don't tune in.

I just want the board to reflect real life. The vast majority of people swear. There are different flavors of swearing too and they're not all personal attacks. Only a handful of us would be TRULY offended by "he totally lost his sh*t" or crawfish's classic "how to f*ck up when there's no f*ckup there".
I say lose the swear filter and let common sense guide those who make (and remove) posts. Casual swears are fine, personal attacks are not. If anyone wants to say something offensive they can't be stopped by the filter or a faq or the lack of an adult-only forum. Only moderation can stop it, and there's always gonna be disagreements on where the mods choose to draw that line.
Making the extra forum is pointless, it encourages more offense than it prevents.

We used to have something like that. It was called RSB or Rec.Sport.billiard newsgroup. To tell you the truth, it got out of hand! I think it's a dead spam group now.
I'm a Vietnam vet sailor, who's owned 2 bars and 2 poolrooms and spent over 20 years "on the road". I've seen and heard it all! The internet changed all that! I guarantee that the woofing, insults, profanity that you'd have on the net, if it isn't kept "in check" would easily be tenfold what you'd hear in even the seediest of pool rooms or bars. The "Keyboard Commandos" hide behind screen names and feel invulnerable. They would never say the same things "face-to-face" that they spew out anonomously, at least not more than once!
People have gotten used to being at least civil here in AZ. They may even have improved vocabulary and computer skills here.I think it would be a "step back" to have an unmoderated forum.

Yes this channel might no be for everyone but it would help to"clean up" the regular or main areas we already have.
I look at this site as a reflection of the real world. There are things I say and don't say in a library much like the "main froum".
But there are times I like to go to a poolhall and speak freely among my adult friends without fear of one slip of the tounge getting me "banned forever" like this site does.
Just like your T.V. if you don't like that channel don't watch if but at least give us the option

In a situation where people hide behind made-up screen names, it's a terrible idea. Even if true identities were used, it's still a bad idea. The AZB moderators do a great job keeping this a classy forum (or as close to that as they can manage). Why would you want to change that? You don't have sufficient hostility in your private life to suit you? Get married then.
In a sport already renowned for eating it's young, I don't think we need to do anything else to alienate or otherwise discourage young people from taking part. I understand that some stories could be shared in an adult area that wouldn't otherwise be shared, but what I could see happening is a lot of useful information posted in the adult area just because the person posting it wants to be able to drop the f-bomb whenever they please. I personally am not offended by harsh language/vulgarity, etc., but I still like the forum the way it is, moderately censored.

John, behave. Do it consistently. If you do, people will forget your past behavior - most of us are very forgiving and really want to see you turn over a new leaf.
My oldest grandson is 11, and i sure wouldn't let him read this forum.I would already rate it R. Just a look at a few threads and you see someone talking about having sex on a pool table, and one on here insulting Christians! I'm sure many of these same people are always the ones talking about how the pool culture needs to be cleaned up also.

As I see it it would help to clean up the main areas we already have by getting adult conversation out of it or if a thread started to get out of hand they could take it to the other room. Plus out of the 45 channels I mentioned earlier here. I have never opened or posted on the "US Bar box championship" that area or channel just doesn't interest me SO I DON'T GO THERE. Try putting that mentallity to a new "adult pool conversation" area if it offends you don't click your mouse on it. But at least give others the option or the outlet.
I wouldn't be offended in the least. Again, I'm pretty open-minded personally. I simply don't see why this particular site needs to add that element, if the mods/whoever-is-in-charge don't want such an area.
As for "freedom", that is a double-edged sword. Freedom to act boorish versus the freedom to not experience it if one so chooses. Yes, a different sub-forum wouldn't have to be viewed if one so chose, but perhaps many AZers would just as soon NOT have this fine place associated with any of that stuff. As in being quoted and/or linked to other forums here, or other sites across the World Wide Web. That would make an automatic association with that sort of behavior to this site to anyone seeing such a link anywhere else. Often times you can find a thread here as a result in a google search on things pool-related. This is a very real possibility.
There really is a lot of space on the internets. This kind of discussion could be had easily elsewhere. Many of the discussions here already go to the extreme already.

As usual, I guess I was looking at this wrong I was trying to keep the integrity of the programing content we currently have on AZ billiards like ABC, CBS, and NBC just adding some new stations like HBO and Showtime.
But if you want to see those stations you have to go to another cable provider (somewhere else on the internet) and if you want to watch any of those shows it won't be with your friends here.
But hey.. I liked Leave it to beaver or The Andy Griffith Show even more so
I love straight pool and in the 50's that game was real popular.

Ah, don't take it personally. Even though I'm not in agreement with you, I don't think it was a "stupid suggestion". I just feel it would dilute the forum sort of. There may be topics of interest to people who don't want to look at a lot of unnecessary profanity. I use an occasional "shit" or "damn" in the forum when it seems appropriate, and to the best of my knowledge it wasn't even bleeped out. But the forums I've been to that were unmoderated really get stupid with it! As I said I'm not a prude. I'll use the "F" word in appropriate company, but I don't like it when it's used in front of woman I'm with, or children or just unnecessarily every other word like some people tend to do when un-checked! If a section is dedicated to this, there may be some good valid threads that are posted there and just because someone doesn't want to wade through the "ghetto rap" style talk they'll miss out and the people there will also miss out on their insight and input. Just my point of view.
