question about BK2 shaft

Aside from the hard tip, is a Predator BK2 shaft any different than a 314-2? I'm looking for a break cue and I'm thinking if I put a hard tip on my spare 314-2 shaft...that should be pretty close.

If there are differences, what are they?

Thanks.

not 100% on this but i don't think that the bk2 shaft is as LD as the 314-2 as i can't see a reason for them to make the bk2 shaft with the hallowed out end like the 314-2, wouldn't make much sense from a breaking perspective.

the ferrule material is different, it's harder and also a little heavier which makes it deflect a little more, but gives more power and is more durable for breaking. it's some kind of linen base material, looks to me like LBM. it also has a carbon fiber pad on it.

the taper is also stiffer than the 314-2. not sure if the bore size is perhaps smaller to give the shaft a little more sidewall.

I always assumed it's just a 314 with a ferrule that doesn't break as easily.

Is it my imagination or did the earlier BKs have 314 in big writing on the collar?

The BK2 shaft has a slightly more conical taper which is stiffer then the 314-2's longer pro taper. The ferrule is stronger for breaking as well. However the BK2 shaft is still pretty low deflecting, not as much as the 314-2. I remember that Platinum Billiards tested the deflection of many shafts and the BK2 was one of the best just behind Predator's players, just as low as the 1st gen 314. I've even thought about changing the tip ( possibly ferrules ) and using the BK2 as a player, I like a stiffer shaft with low deflection. I currently use the 314-2 FAT and enjoy it much, it's exactly the same as a 314-2 but a little stiffer do to the thicker diameter.

The BK2 shaft will hold up much better overall as a breaker then a 314-2 would with a hard tip. I like Predator and the BK2 but I own a OB Break and I'm very pleased with this cue, it has a strong taper with a 13mm diameter and low deflection properties as well.

I just purchased a BK2. I had been watching a few tv tourneys, and noticed that 3 or 4 of the players were using the BK2 as breakers. I figured if good enough for them.........

When I got the cue, naturally the first thing I did was rack 'em up and fire! My first stroke pocketed four balls of a 15 ball rack, with no feelable vibration.

Being the lazy guy that I am, rather than pulling out my player, I went ahead and shot down the remaining balls with the BK2. I must have worn my smile around for four or five days, as I LOVE shooting with this cue. By the way, this cue does have a hard leather tip on it, not phenolic.

I am quite happy and excited about the way my cue hits, and will probably NEVER sell it.

The BK2 shaft is hollow as well and has a small piece of foam and the end of the hollow part of the shaft. If anybody is wondering .

You are correct. The BK1 is equipped with a 314 shaft and it is clearly labeled on the shaft collar.

Anyone knows if the BK2 ferrule can be used to replace the 3142 ferrule?

will it be a perfect fit and plays the same?

I thought if you broke with a 314-2 that eventually it would shatter...
Maybe I am wrong but with all the issues with Predator and their poor product control and warrenty issues, I don't think I would break with it.
