Question about early 90's Bob Frey

Hey, I have the opportunity to buy an early 90's Bob Frey SP with a wood to wood joint for $125. There is one spot where the finish is wearing off on the handle but that is the only thing that is wrong with it. I understand that they are great cues and I love the hit. I was just wondering if that was a good deal or if I should maybe get a new one. Thanks.

I'll let you make a few bucks and buy it from you for $150! :D Seems like a very good deal. You love the hit, it's only $125, and it's a Frey! How can you go wrong?

This is a great buy. The finish on this early Frey is Laquer, you may want to spend a little and have it refinished in Polyurthane. JP

Hey J.P. how much would it cost to refinish and how long does that take?

Hello

You are getting it for the price of the shaft. Don't touch the finish and wear it out.
Nick :)

That's what I was told before by Brian Roberts here in Louisville. He said don't touch the finish. Could you explain why not? Thanks.

See Jon P. Nusbaum if you're interested in a new one. New ones are in the $350 range depending on the options you choose, and you'll wait a month or two if John doesn't have one in stock. I don't remember the name of his site, but he can give you the hook up. Been tempted to buy one myself. :D

That is a smoking deal! I bought one about 6 mos. ago for $250, and people said that I stole it,lol. I had offers of up to $200 more from people who found out that I got it. They are great cues, with an amazing hit. Good luck with yours!!!! Happy shooting :)

JP's site is http://www.cuesnthings.com/

He is a great guy to deal with as most people will tell you. I got my Frey SP from him and it is awesome!

Bought it last night, thanks for the encouragement. I expected every post in this thread. By the way, how exactly do I pronounce Frey?

like saying "fry" as i was told on this forum before. hopefully i'm not having a brain-fart.

Thanks, the guy I bought it from was pronouncing it like that so that's what I was going with but just wanted to be sure.

I have an early 90's Bob Frey. The finish has worn off a little but man does it still hit good (which is what really matters). Joint still fits perfect. Overall its a champ. Hope you like yours.

Great pick up! Bob Frey's earlier cues are alot better in my opinion! He has recently had trouble getting quality ferrulle material as have almost all cue makers in the industry! His earlier cues have aegis or lbm ferrulles and atlas does not sell either anymore. But, i maybe mistaken on that! They have from time to time come up with some found in a box or storage area sometimes but I know the ferrulle material is a big isssue now a days. So, if the shaft is not turned into a toothpick you got one heck of a deal.

I have been looking for sometime at old frey sneakies for one with the aegis or lbm ferrulles and man they are hard to come by.
