Question about laser line and chalk lines on table

I have my table marked fully with a grid using a sharpie. I first used a tailors white pencil, but I could not see it on the camera well enough. So I went over the lines with a sharpie. Its been over 3 years now, and I don't regret it one bit. It makes setting up drills easy. The main reason I did it is so I can recreate trouble shots more accurately when looking at a video of my shooting.

An alternative to the laser level is a piece of kite string pulled taught and temporarily attached to the table under tension with masking tape. Put the doughnuts under the string so they are in a straight line with the aim point on the facing of the pocket, and then remove the string. For the common perfectly in straight shot, fill in the donut holes with a sharpie, so you can remove them later (or when they fall off) and replace them exactly without the string or level again.

I get those lines all the time when I practice with donuts. They brush out easily. If you don't like the paper ones, there are clear ones. When I start seeing visible lines, I move my donuts so I don't consciously use the lines as aiming guide.

FWIW, I've never had a pool hall manager, owner, or staff make an issue over donuts. I also make sure I clean up after myself

Please don't ever look directly into a laser. Even the flickering disco lights ones are powerful enough to ruin a $2,000 camera like this Canon 5DII.

Unless the cloth was installed incorrectly the first time around, I've never heard from any of the table mechanics needing to re-stretch tables.

....your table can end up looking like this.

Functional, purposeful, not pretty.
