Question about pocket wear.

Hey everybody. I bought a beautiful hardly used Olhausen table almost 2 years ago. Table was in mint condition when I bought it and was only some 3-4 yrs old. I've put in a ton of time on it over the last few years. Cloth is ready to be replaced shortly, but I've noticed something odd. I have a set of the Aramith stone balls, and recently have noticed chips and scratches on them. I started to investigate and have discovered that all of my corner pockets have split and exposed the metal underneath the leather. I thought they were just wear marks but all of them are actually broken right through to the metal. Is this normal wear on a table that's been used under fairly heavy home use for 2 years? I'm ok replacing cloth after 2 years, but pockets? :( Any suggestions on how to repair or will I have to replace?

I've never heard of that happening. Unless the leather on the pockets was very dried out, brittle, or of such poor quality leather I just can't imagine breaking through them like that.

Do you pocket balls exceptionally hard, slam them into the pockets? If not, then I'd send a note to the manufacturer and ask for help.

Never heard of anything like that, my tables 20 years old and pockets are still in decent shape

In the old school tables there was an extra layer of leather protection in the pockets known as ' red leathers'. I'm sure they could be fit to yours

Yes it happens, but Ive only seen it on tables with quite a bit more use than yours. Contact Olhausen, they might replace them for you. I repair pockets for a local pool hall and can tell you theres almost no way to fix it and not have it hideous or split again. There is typically a piece of a heavy felt like material between the iron and the leather, but if the casting wasnt ground/sanded at the manufacturer nothing will keep a sharp edge from cutting through.
