Question about selecting a cue

I am just recently starting to really improve my game and am thinking of buying myself a decent cue. the one I am using now is just a cheap Filipino cue nothing special and it was a hand me down and it is a little warped.

I am gonna get a playing cue and want to know about weight.. what are the advantages and disadvantages of heavier or lighter cues? Also what kind of tips should I be looking for?

Also if anyone knows any good brands available in the Philippines, preferably in the Manila area and where can I see them or is it better to get one in the US?

An heavy cue can make your stroke more stable. A few players I talk to, advice peoples to start with an heavy cue. When you get better, start using lighter cues. My first few cues are very light. To me, it was hard to control, but I'm used of it. I can't play with an heavier cue anymore, don't know why. I like to play with a light cue. It's more flexible than an heavy cue. It gives me more control over the cue, rather than the cue are controlling me. I can't tell you what weight you need to buy it. You need to try it by yourself. The most frequent used weight is around 19oz. I would advice you 20oz, but just try it yourself.

For a good tip, go for a layered tip. You can try for a Tiger Sniper. I don't like it that much, but on AZ almost everyone likes it.

Ronnie is in the PI and makes a great cue!

Typical cheap PI cues will warp or come apart in short order...especially if they are taken out of the PI. The wood is not properly dried.

I assume that you're in the P.I. try a production AsKa cue. but if you want some local custom cues and know how to take care of em, you could ask for LINDS. he's a member here and a cuemaker. I'm sure he can help you with some. I'm sure he can help you out also in selecting what kind of cue is ideal for you and give you some first hand advice as well. ;)

I let everybody play with my cues and see what they like...for a great deal I recommend Rick Howard cues for players. I currently dont have one but I have never played with a bad one and the prices here on AZ are incredibly low.
