Hi,i was wondering if you could remove the stain from a cue?I have at times saw cues that were stained birdseye and didnt like that it was dark stained and would like it to be a natural maple color.Could the cue be taken down removing the stain and then refinished?

Forget it!!! The whole idea of the stain is for it to PENATRATE the wood. To try to remove it, might leave you with a tooth pick...JER

I thought that might be the case, that to remove the stain you would have to go pretty far down into the wood.

If the stain was applied correctly, its there. You never know how deep it penetrated till you start sanding, I wouldn't advise that.

All depends on color of stain and type. Water type stains soak in deepest, next alcohol base stains and oil soaks in the least. Of coarse, you usually don't know what type of stain is on the cue. The darker the color of stain also affects how difficult to completely remove. Usually though, all stain not need to be removed for a successful refinish. The places hardest to remove are usually the figure of the wood such as birdseye's and curls. However, the darker stain left in the areas usually make the wood look much better as then they stand out much better. Rat, of Ratcues says he has no problem changing stains on most cues.

bleech? will the cue die? warp, bloated, melt....etc etc.

Maybe the predator was not stain but just painted. I would love to see what it looks like now.
