I have a question i hope somebody might be able to answer. When i was at the Open in 2006 i watched SVB beat Cliff Joyner on a bar box playing 8 ball. When he got done with Cliff, Evgeny Stalev asked him to play. Stalev wanted to play " shoot what you make on the break" and not the way he played Cliff...SVB said no thanks. Now i know enough about SVB ,from watching him play and from what people on here say about him and his game, to believe he should beat Stalev. I have also seen Stalev play on numerous times. I may be wrong on my assessment. But everybody knows what they say about opinions. Now my question is this. Does anybody know why SVB would not play the way Stalev wanted to play or maybe have an idea? Is this the way 8 ball is played nowadays..I have not played a game of 8 ball in years. SVB said he would play the same way he played Cliff but not the other way. Maybe, If Shane remembers it, he can post and answer this question......Just wondering is all...............mike

Stalev is an 8 ball monster. Probably 1 of 2 or 3 guys who Shane would not have to like playing 8 Ball. His break makes Shanes look weak, which should tell you alot.

They matched up at the Derby this year playing big table 8 ball, open after the break either 8 or 10 ahead for $3k in the middle. Stalev was ahead for most of the set and started saying he was tired. He was 3 games up and asked Shane if he wanted to just pull the money down and play later. From zero. No pro rate just pull it down and start over later. Shane said no. They played for awhile longer and went back and forth with the coin staying on Stalev's side. He got up 4 games and made the same offer. Shane accepted and they each took their $3K and went their seperate ways. Damndest thing I have ever seen.

I think Shane can get there playing that game but it is absolutely gambling. That skinny Russian hits the break a million miles an hour with that fishing rod he plays with and balls just explode, the cue ball goes 9 rails around the table and NEVER got kicked in a pocket. If he sees a shot he is out. His weakness is that he gets either overconfident or lazy and misses some shots he probably shouldn't.

I would love to see them go again. Maybe we can set it up.

2006 Shane wasn't quite the caliber player he is today, going into 2008. I am fairly certain Shane would play either way now. Stalev is an 8ball monster.
