Question about unknown 4 point (with veneers) cue that is up for auction on ebay.

I like traditional looking old school cues and this one has the look. I just wouldn't want to pay what it's been bid to. Be interesting to find out what it is though.

I don't think any of us would quickly walk away from it at a garage sale for even a couple hundred. No question any one of us would grab it up at a garage sale for 50 or 100.

Crossing that 400 mark is getting tough though.

My feeling is that the cue will remain unidentified.

Exactly what I was thinking. It'd be a great garage sale find.

Well Said! IMHO there are plenty of great finds out there, in that price range, that have far many less issues or questions. Spending a couple of hundred is one thing, but reaching the 500 plus mark is too risky for me.

I have purchased a couple of third catalog Palmers in extremely nice condition for less. To each their own, not a cue I would bid on.

You have to remember there were many cues made at the time to emulate customs of the time. Some foreign some US made with a mix of foreign blanks and standard available components. You can see the same pins, shaft inserts and materials used by many because there was not alot of components available.

This cue is overpriced already at 400 plus. Condition alone says this.

Doctor chopper, IMHO there are several RED flags with this cue.

I would think it most likely is a Taiwan import that has been re-worked.

Many folks did just that in the 90s

I would say that boils it down nicely.

Don't let what you do know be influenced by what you don't know

Rule for logical thinking

ie I don't know why it is selling for so much,it must be something

Faulty reasoning

Why people buy what they do on ebay is a mystery
why they buy on Az is a mystery too

good luck, the cue is not a Szam or Balabushka and what else is worth buying in bad shape?

Very often a mystery.

I am not a buyer on this cue but I can tell you part of what attracts me to such things.

I have an affinity for broken things and broken people. I have a desire to fix them up. It's actually part of the reason I became a doctor.

As I said earlier I also enjoy the analytical part of it. The observation, collection of data, and the research.

I would say for most people such cues don't really make sense to entertain buying. Why the prices shoot up is a mystery to me. Sometimes maybe somebody knows what it is, but often I think not. I think there are a lot or people on eBay that fancy themselves collectors. I think they are probably the same people that have five or six Dale Perry eBay cues. Sometimes though, it's one of "us"

Unknown Cue

This cue has features that make you think its a old collectible cue. However what throws me completely off is the ring work (plastic or ivory) right in front of the wrap and just before the points. Anybody seen that on any serious cues before? If this ring work was also just behind the wrap it would make more sense. Did Paradise or Palmer do this?
